Vent Panel Rust Help!

Hey All,
I've been following this site about a year now, and appreciate all the info and ideas. I'm working on restoring a 68 Chevy C20, hoping to have it ready for my wedding this summer (probably a pipe dream but can't hurt trying!) This is my first post and I'm looking for advice regarding rust around the vent door in the kick panel. I've looked all over the web for a patch panel for this area with no luck. Does one exist or am I stuck trying to make something?
Thanks in advance

Re: Vent Panel Rust Help!

I haven't seen one but sometimes on the parts section of this board, guys cut up cabs and sell pieces that people need. You may want to PM Teeitup (Randy) to name one.

Looks like your truck doesn't have much rust, I'm surprised how bad that area is.

To the best of my knowledge there is nothing available for that. You will have to make them or find someone that is cutting up a cab. There was a member on the parts board that was selling some cab parts. Member "budnikguy" maybe?

Edit: Jud, you type too fast....

Re: Vent Panel Rust Help!

You could always deal with the rust with "Rustmort" then a rust inhibitting primer, then shave the vents. You will probably never use them anyway. I know I don't... WES

Re: Vent Panel Rust Help!

My truck has the same issue and so does one I was looking at. It would probably be much easier to shave them but they are nice in the summer time.

Re: Vent Panel Rust Help!

You came to the right place to look for a repair panel, but unfortunately you are about three days too late for me to help you. I just cut up and scrapped a cab.

Nobody makes a patch panel for the vent area on the trucks, but there are plenty of these things parked everywhere. Forum members hack them up regularly.

Judging by the extent of your rust-through, I suspect that there may be more corrosion behind it. The boxed in area behind the vent opening has a tendency to fill with water and rust out the lowest corner.

I suggest closing off the floor vent with a piece of flat sheet and drive on!
