My son’s maiden solo...

His first solo drive with a manual transmission...I wish I knew how to upload a video, he didn’t do too bad...for a 14 year olds first day anyway...

Re: My son’s maiden solo...

Nowadays, we're lucky if they don't ask "what's a key?" let alone how to manually shift.
Big day, congrats!

Well Dad, at least your teaching your boy to drive in a proper vehicle! I'm sure you both had big old smiles!

Re: My son’s maiden solo...

Good times! We had a 72 f100 with 3 on the tree. My first attempt was a roll start and had it in reverse. It started, but was I pinned against the steering wheel. I didn't try that for a while again. But I remember how your boy must have felt, excited, scared and nervous all at once, with a big smile.

This fall, his science teacher(a fellow gear head) asked his class who had a cool old car, and told him to raise his hand, my son said he’d never get to drive it though,so that afternoon I let him cruise around in this...I swear he drove us by every girl in his classes house...

I think the bug is firmly planted, he’s the one who asked to learn to drive a manual transmission...

My son learned in a '67 Stepper too. 3 on the tree. He did pretty good. I showed him the basics and just let him drive it up and down our loooooong driveway.

Re: My son’s maiden solo...

Nice, I learned on a 80's Isuzu Pup (4 speed) and a 41 Plymouth Deluxe (3 on Tree).

Good skills to have. At the very least, he'll appreciate the autos more.

Re: My son’s maiden solo...

My middle son "borrowed" my 77 GMC K20 4 gear and taught himself. He has two manual cars. I taught my daughter and she has only had one automatic, her first car. Proud of both of them. Nice job letting him cruise the 55. Nice unit!

Re: My son’s maiden solo...

My son is 6 so he's got a ways yet. But he loves the "monster truck" as he calls it. I installed 3-point shoulder harnesses so he could ride in it with his booster seat.

Very cool pic!

Very cool. Both of mine (6&10) like to do the shifting in the 93. Just getting them ready early.

Re: My son’s maiden solo...

Now that is driving, not that sissified steering wheel holding they call driving these days!

I started a YouTube account a couple months ago because that was the only way I knew how to get videos from Photobucket onto this website. Check that out. If I figured it out, you can.
