Where do I leave my arm or leg?

Finally getting serious about picking out a set of 20" wheels for my build. What in the world? Clearly been awhile since I priced a set of wheels. Am I really looking at 5K plus for a set of wheels and tires? Please tell me I can go to my local guy and get a deal...before I saw off an arm or leg.

I was looking at Billet Specialties or Foose wheels, but they bait you with some obscure size. When you click on the 20" wheels your wallet falls out of your pocket and runs for the door.

Anyone have suggestions on where to shop for the best prices? Also want to verify BS on front and rear with a 4/6 drop.

My truck is lowered 4.5” in the front and 7” in the rear. Leaf spring with a flip.

17x8 4.5” backspace good on the front (that’s zero offset). 17x9 5” bs on rear, that’s also zero backspace. 70-72 wider axle housing.

You didn’t specify width or tire size which are both important to figment. I have 235 55 17 on front of mine and 275 55 20 on the rear. On my truck at the present height, that’s about as wide as will fit.


Your truck, your call, but IMO 20’s look just completely out of place on a 67-72. Save some money and get a set of 18’s!

I guess for the higher end name brand wheels they are still really high but the price of big wheels has dropped a lot since they become more standard on stock vehicles. I remember when 17" wheels were considered big and cost a fortune, these are pretty much standard on even base model cars and can be found laying all over the junkyard now. My 20" wheels/tires were cheaper than my rally wheels/tires (due to 15" tires being more hard to come by) but they are no name brand so a whole different animal.

I've been bouncing back and forth between the 18's and 20's. I've looked at photo after photo and I will see one truck with 18's and think they are perfect and then the next they look small. Likewise, some 20's look too big.

I do want some sidewall on my tire. Don't like the little thin tires. I want to go as wide as possible too.

If you're wanting true forged Billet wheels, then yes, $5000 for set is commonplace. However, if you're willing to settle for cast wheels, there's lots of options in the $1000-1500 range. If you're one Facebook, look up Dave Cooper in Jamestown, TN. You won't find a better priced set of wheels anywhere, and he has tire and wheel packages ready to go.

Now, with all that said, and you're talking about possibly going with a different sized wheel, what are your plans for the truck? Cruising and street brawling, or handling?

68Stepbed...your setup is what keeps me coming back to the 18" wheels. I love your truck.

I will be doing the cruising and street brawling. I don't like the 18 front and 20 rear look. I am thinking about the 8" wide front with 9.5" rear, but haven't decided on that either. I am a 4/6 static drop

Cast wheels sound like the way to go. I will check out Dave Cooper. Thanks,

Personally I would go look at some trucks in person and not make such a high priced decision from a photo. Real life makes a difference.

And if you mean drag racing when you say street brawling then you want a bunch of sidewall on your tire or your just going to make smoke. Ever see a set of low profile drag radials?

I love those wheels as well, but those are nearly a grand a piece or more. There are two or three Billet Specialties wheels that I like until I price them.

No drag racing...just stop light to stop light fun. I do agree about seeing them in person. I frequent shows etc. to look. No wonder the torque thrust is so popular on so many cars and trucks. They are affordable and look good.

I'll certainly take that as a compliment! I'll admit I have to agree with Mike C. on the fact I typically don't care for anything bigger than 18's on these trucks. I've always thought 20's looked out of place. There's been a few that look pretty good, but in general, no. Of course, that's just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.

8's in front and 9.5 or 10s in the rear is a very popular combination. I'm currently at 9.5's on all four corners, and will eventually get 18x11s all around on 315 tires.

Just be aware that some of the cheaper one piece wheels don't clear big brake kits. I'm having to get some replacements for my torq thrust 2s because of that. Thinking of going with 20" forgeline grudge wheels.
