72 Jimmy resto-mod: 454, 700R4, 14B, D60

I figured it was about time I posted up some pics of the project I've been working on the last couple years. This board has been super helpful and I feel neglectful for not posting as the build progressed. I'm just more of a garage guy than computer guy! Here are the specs:

1972 GMC Jimmy

1994 TBI 454, bored .030, heads decked and ported (A LOT!), Edelbrock cam and manifold, Thorley headers and duals w/ H-pipe, custom chip, bored TBI unit, SBC serpentine system w/ A/C (not yet working).
BUILT (clutches, servos, etc.) 700R4, NP205 w/ disc parking brake.
Rear 14 bolt, Detroit Locker, 4.56 gears, discs. Dana 60 front w/ crossover steering. One ton master/booster assembly.

4" Skyjacker lift, 315/75R16 Cepek FCII tires on powder coated steelies, later model GMC hubcaps via conversion lugnuts.

Tub Rhinolined, tilt column w/ later model GMC wheel, power windows, Corbeau seats front and rear, Tuffy console, custom cage.

Still need to get the A/C working so any tips on hooking a later model compressor to the original system would be appreciated! A lot of little finish things (as always) but it's getting there. And here are some pics:

Thanks, guys! Lots of work as I'm sure you're aware. Here are a couple of the rear seat / cage. Also wired some Bazooka wakeboard tower speakers through the cage! I tied the front of the cage into the windshield frame and, yes, I know that's not the strongest way. This is an A/C truck and I didn't want to cut holes through the dash, lose leg room, etc. Not going to be wheeled hard, either. Let me know if these help:

Very nice, Do you have a pic of a full side shot? I'm also running D60,14b with 456's but I have 2 1/5" lift and I'm wondering if 35 BFG will fit. I'm thinking 35's to offset the 456 gears.

Here ya go! I think 2 1/2" would have cleared my combo but a lot will depend on the wheels you choose and their offset / backspacing. The forward edge of my front fenders has also been massaged a bit to allow more clearance and I put on a 1" longer shackle up front to compensate for the heavier motor. The front springs are also brand new and should settle a bit. I think I probably could have cleared a 37" but I like the look I've got.

That turned out perfect! My very first vehicle was a 72 blazer. I wish like hell I had left it parked in high school rather than bomb through every mud hole in the county... Great job!

Yep... shouldnt be allowed to own one until your at least 28.

Ha! I was stuck driving a Subaru in high school. That didn't keep me from bombing though the mud holes though! Tom, your 2WD Jimmy is way nice - would love to have one of each someday.

agreed! I ended up selling it to a guy for $500 bucks. the only thing left on it that I didn't destroy was the top. I will own one again someday!

Thank's for the pic's of the cage. I am wanting to go with the CB seats front and rear also. What model seats did you use frt and rear? I want my front and rear seats to mount to tubing that is part of the cage on the lower floor. Don't think I need recliners in the front, and can use a CB42" for the rear. Sound about right?

Oops - sorry for the delay! Yeah, used the Corbeau Baja JP front seats (the JP version have lower side bolsters to help make getting in easier - still a bit of a pain though) part number 26402B and the rear is the 42" Baja Bench (64402B). I made some mounts to adapt the seats to the factory slider / tilt brackets in front but the strongest way would be to attach them directly to the cage. You just lose the adjustability doing it that way. Then made some simple brackets to attach the rear seat to the factory mounts as well. The rear is a bit narrower than factory, but a couple kids fit perfect! Anything else, let me know.

Those seats are comfy huh? A buddy of mine put them in his pre runner.
