You can still run the tighter gap without issue. Usually when you run higher HP or forced induction you close the gaps up. Those cools TV commercials you see don't actually show the truth. All the added stuff going on iside the cylinder affect the flame kernal in a negative way when compared to an open air gap outside the cylinder.
