Re: small back window

No small back window in 1969, except in the C60. Lots of these trucks have had the cabs swapped though so it probably has a 67 cab.

Re: small back window

There were a handful of early small window 68’s (all have been C-30’s that I’ve seen) but they were gone by 1969.

Re: small back window

I once owned (for part of a day--between buying at auction and selling to a junk yard) the nearly stripped carcass of a '68 C10 with a small rear window. I bought it for some window glass, a wiper motor, and the PS set up (lying across the front frame complete and intact). I sold the remainder for the same $50 I bid for it. In fact, I didn't even pay the auctioneer--I let the guy I sold it to do so while I removed the parts I needed.

Re: small back window

my thoughts as well but wouldn't the VIN have to match up to the title of a 1967?

Re: small back window

look at the vin tag. if the tag is held on by daisy rivits, its the correct plate for the cab. if its on with regular round rivets then its been swapped.
pics will get you some more definite answers

New rosette rivets are available, so that's not necessarily true anymore. They are pricey, but they are out there.

Re: small back window

Bottom line -there were no 69 light dutys with a small window. So you really need to see the VIN tag and the title VIN - and compare. I'd also ask for the frame VIN and for a SPID picture as well. (Note, 5th digit/place is the year annotation, 7 for 67, 9 for 69, etc).

The only possibilities I can see are:

If rosette rivets are intact:
- 67 cab, with its original 67 VIN tag still attached, was swapped onto what was originally a 69 truck when last titled - I'd run away, it will be difficult to transfer title, especially if the SELLER is the one that did the cab swap (i.e. title would have transferred just fine to him when HE bought it)
- There's a typo on the title and it's actually a 67 truck (or very early 68 as mentioned above) - which you would know as soon as you lay eyes on the metal VIN tag and title - the title would have a 9 in the 5th digit and the VIN tag would be identical except for a 7 (or 8) in the 5th digit.

If rosette rivets are gone (replaced by round)
1. Run away
2. Run away
you will have even more trouble titling in this scenario, could be any combination of buffoonery up to, and including, a stolen vehicle. Not legal to swap tags around in any state.
True statement above that illegal rosette rivets are available - but interestingly enough, we still see folks using the round ones...

Another possibility, to indy's point, is some version of a med duty truck cab from 69 stuck on there, but it would still be a cab swap scenario from DMV perspective.

Bottom line - your description sets off flags on something as serious as a stolen truck - to as simple as a cab swap or title typo. You need to see both before you proceed with buying this truck - feel free to post em here. If seller won't provide, yet another reason to walk away.

Re: small back window

Another rare fetched possibility is that it was converted to a small window by a custom shop.

I’m converting my ‘85 into a small back window. I found a 1970 C/60 donor cab with the same style as the 1967 C10.

But to answer your question, the 1969 small back window C/10 would not be original or correct from the factory

I have yet to see proof of a small window 68. The c-40 and up were usually small window, but the 10-30 series were all big rear window as far as I know.

I pulled a bunch of parts off of one years ago that I believe to be original. It was '68 C-30 with a service body. It was a rough original paint truck with a 292 / 4 speed. The VIN had an "8" on the 5th digit, it had marker lights, but I don't remember which switch and ashtray it had (I'm not even sure I knew the difference back then), but I do know the interior and glove box door was body color typical of 68's and not textured black and silver like '67. It also had a silver painted grill and '68 trim surround trim, but I took it off the truck. Everything was consistent with a '68 except the small window.

The funny thing is that I didn't even know that it a '68 small window wasn't normal at that time. I knew that the medium duty trucks had small windows up into the 70's and I assumed a small window C-30 was normal.

I wish that truck wouldn't have gotten crushed. I'd love to go back and really look it over.
