He's also a super nice guy and that truck is even better looking in person than in the pictures. Its very clean and neat for a daily driven classic!!

Re: TR65 LS2 T56 Engine Swap 65 C10

Thanks for the kind words guys! The truck is a real pleasure to drive with the LS2 and 6 speed.

BlueX - Good to hear from you, hope all is well, and thanks.

Towers, Here is the fan setup I run. I fabbed a frame out of aluminum angle and mounted it with the existing holes for the old fan shroud. It is nice having 2 fans since the ECM decides if it needs one or two. Never calls for 2 unless sometimes when the AC is running. The fans pull 12 amps each.

Would be a lot cheaper to salvage electric fans from the junk yard though.

Re: TR65 LS2 T56 Engine Swap 65 C10

Great thread, truck and very nice work. Thanks for the details and pictures. I am in process of doing a LT1/T5 swap and have been working on a crossmember brake bracket combo like what you have made. I will now combine what I have worked out and some ideas from yours and hopefully make something work well. Where did you get your tank from? I currently have a TPI engine with a return running the stock sending unit and tank. The fumes are killing me so I need to do something.

Re: TR65 LS2 T56 Engine Swap 65 C10

Thanks!

I can say that after a couple of years of use the e-brake setup has worked perfectly.

My tank is from Rick's Hot Rod Shop. Very expensive. It is a very nice piece. 4" below the frame at the back, 5-1/2" below the frame at the front. Can't see it. Fully baffled for the EFI pump which was included.

Good luck with your build!

Re: TR65 LS2 T56 Engine Swap 65 C10

Hello, I've had this thread bookmarked for a while. Love the truck / swap.

I am wondering though, your goal was 20+ MPG on the way to work (which I assume is highway) did it meet the goal? What did the truck end up getting? It's all steel and 60's aerodynamics.. but the 6-speed should have helped a little.

I swapped an 87 Rx7 to an LS1 , T-56 and get 27 ish MPG highway at 80 mph on flat land.. so I'm asking cause I wouldn't mind finding an ok truck and doing an LQ4 swap on it.

Great fab and great threat!

Re: TR65 LS2 T56 Engine Swap 65 C10

Thanks for the kind words men.

Alex,

I have posted the mpg story on some of the mpg threads. After careful measurements, Odometer calibrated with GPS, same gas station parked the same way at the same pump etc. I can't get but an average of 17.5 mpg. I have a C6 Vette with exactly the same final drive ratio, both run 70 mph at 1800 RPM. Basically the same engine. On the same circuit same speeds back and forth to work the Vette gets a true 21 mpg. That huge difference I believe is due to aerodynamics. Our trucks are rolling billboards.

So I was disappointed but the truck is a great ride and I drive it every day in good weather, the Vette is the bad weather car.

I smiled when you said the Vette is the bad weather car. Thanks for the info! Ya I had a feeling the aero. was going to inhibit it a bit. Thanks again!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Another great thread. The attention to detail you have is what I envision for my own project, the skill, however, is lacking! But I won't give up! That's for the great info and detailed explanation. It is much appreciated.

Re: TR65 LS2 T56 Engine Swap 65 C10

As others have said, great thread! The detail is helping me with my LS swap.

A question if you don't mind, on drivability.

I would love a "close ratio" T56 but looks like I am going to have to settle for a wide. Therefore, how do you find the gearbox in the truck? Can it pull 5th and 6th comfortably or does it feel uncomfortable? What rear end ratio are you running and height of tyres?

My LS is just a 5.3 so will be slightly differant in hp to your LS2 but would be good to hear your experiences.

Many thanks.

P.
