Remove the transmission cross member and use it as a cab lift. However, your cab may be a little long compared to a pickup cab. That should lift a hood and more. Clay

As a follow-up and thread conclusion:
The home-made cherry picker hood carriage worked well, enabling me to maneuver the hood into position without damage and hold it while I installed the bolts. Yay! Thanks for the ideas!
