Nice. I saw this truck and met you briefly at LST earlier this year. Cool to see that it's on the forum.

Looks great, I really like what the emblem added to the truck. Seems like a small item but makes a big impact.

Was wondering if this is where you got the inspiration for BRUTUS... seeing as how your other fine ride is a '65 GTO?

Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10

No, but the coincidence is pretty cool though.

Originally I was trying to think of something with blue or some shade of blue in the name, trying to work from names like Red Fox, Goldilocks, and Bad Penny (HotRod's Camaro that was a copper color), among others, but the blue names weren't very cool. I had a fantasy football team called the blue brutes a little over a decade ago, so Brutus was a bit of a stretch from that. Brutus is a far cooler name than Blue Brute.

It's definitely not as powerful as that GTO (tempest really) but it has far more power now than the factory 350 that was in it.

I just browsed through your entire build thread. Bravo sir.

Have you seen people shave their factory truck intakes? Some of them look pretty good. Might be an option for your motor if you havent figured anything out yet.

Thank you. Yeah, I've seen it done, but I still don't like how they look. Honestly, I'm not really upset with how it currently looks, and I kind of like the ribs they added to it. But it's still not pretty by any means. I have an idea for a cover I want to try, but I'm not at the point of putting it into motion yet. I should really get some cardboard or poster board and play with proportions before I try to make it work in metal form. Plus, since I don't have an English wheel or any real quality metal bending tools, it'll be pretty difficult to do at home and have it look good. I'll eventually get it done, but it might be a while.

Browsed through the entire thread, great work, killer truck! It's a good motivator. Like that rear gear housing vent idea you found Love the LS swap. How you like the Magnaflows? I'll be doing exhaust once I get 5.3/trans mounted in frame soon. Torn between them and Flowmaster 44s. Enjoy that sweet ride

Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10

I'm actually running 3" Flowmaster Original 40s... they're loud and have a ton of drone in the cab. They sound cool, but suck on long trips. I'm actually in process of extending the exhaust toward the back of the bed. I have electric cut-outs and at idle, the mufflers are maybe 5 decibels quieter than the open pipe (guessing... I really can't tell much of a difference). I'm planning on using a quieter & smaller flowmaster Super HP2 with the cutouts closed and the 40s with the cutouts open.

Re: Knomadd '71 SWB C-10

I just realized I never posted how I fixed the fans... I wound up pulling the Entropy fan controller and replaced the entire wired system with a Dakota Digital fan controller, new relays, fuses and wiring. The controller is daisy chained off the other DD modules so it will pull data from the OBD-II module for temp and speed. It can be programmed to shut the fans off at and above a set speed (60 MPH in my case). It also uses standard plug in relays instead of the soldered to a circuit board type relay that Entropy uses. I like that better for side of the road fixes, in case a relay gives out on me. I'm also running larger 40A fuses because the relays can handle it. The 30s that were in it before both blew, which is why the fans weren't working and the engine got hot. It just didn't let me know until I was in traffic, when the fans are necessary.

Sorry, no pictures.

Had a similar issue with my Entropy / Dakota Digital controller setup. Also running 40a fuses. I’ve never had big fans like these, but these are loud!

Ever heard Spintech mufflers on an LS engine? Mine have no drone. Quieter than Flowmaster and Magnaflow but louder than a Dynomax Superturbo. What I particularly like about them is that they are super heavy duty and shouldn't rust out any time soon. Can't remember if you have one but an H pipe will kill a ton of that annoying drone.

Yeah, I have a single 16" spal on my GTO, it's loud, but two on the C10 is even louder

I've heard of Spintech, but never hear them in person. I like the loud, just not for a long trip. The HP2 sounds pretty good and is mellow inside, but still noticeable outside. I can always flip the switch on the cutouts and go back to the Original 40's.
I don't have an H or X pipe because I like how it sounds as a true dual. I'm not a big fan of an even/smooth exhaust tone. I like it when it sounds choppy. Even though I don't have a big cam in it, it still cuts the sound up a bit.

Thanks! The cover is made by a company called Craftec. I believe they are just outside of Dallas. It isn't water tight, but it helps keep things in/out of the bed.

It's been a while since I posted. Nothing exciting to post, the wife and I have just been driving Brutus around. Took him to a local show back in September:

And out for a dinner date with my wife, and snapped a photo after parking.
