'90 2wd blazer build up..

My first blazer/truck build and it's a doozy.. haha, hoping to get it done by the first week of jan.

i finally... picked up my blazer to day, very healthy tbi350/700r4/np241 combo, with lot's of extras that came with it,

only got to work 2 hours on it, before it was too dark to work... didn't get much done... pulled the rear end out of the c10, and made some room to put it.

short and brief, but tomorrow should be better.. and i will update at that time.

Someone said they were somewhat interested in this so.... bump... yeha... first week of jan? i think not!

but anyways. I have been doing some work, pulled the 12 bolt and all the front end out of my c-10 to swap into my the truck... though as some people have stated that theres some holes to line it up i'm not seeing them, but i will tackle that on the weekend and let eveyone know how i did it.. maybe post a few pics.

anyways here's the plan, mild 350/saggy/mini spooled 12 bolt, i picked up some 3" spindles and chopping the stock springs, flip kit for the back, and i have some 20' boss 338's on order.. dumped 40's (I actually hate blowmasters with a passion, but i'm also cheap and cant pass up free things), and some other stuff to finish it all up...

not a hot motor at all, just a stock 350, with vortecs and a lunati 60103..

about how low im wanting to go.. maybe even a bit lower..


though even at the height im going to be hitting the inner fender so i'll probably just cut out the top of it.

I'm draggin' @$$ on mine too. I bought mine in October of '09 and haven't actually done one thing to it, but drive it. I do have great plans though

I have only thought about working on mine, its too dang hot and I'm working 55+ hrs. Dont feel like doing much at home....

i'd trade the hot for rain any day.. if i don't have to work in it =p

now the only hole i've found to line up is, the upper brake bracket hole and the upper rear most hole in the X member. now.. I'm not 100000% sure if this is where it goes.. but that's where mine is and it's good enough for me. and the holes measure out the same on both frames.. so if it's somehow wrong.. i don't see how. just make get the x-member square in the frame and giver.

I got half of my wheels on the weekend as well.. look great.. just waiting on the rears.. hopefully by the weekend? haha who knows.

other than that, nothing much.. even thinking of flogging it and buying a bike... but it's been along time since i've had something that can do a burnout on a whim.. so this might have to stay.

Ok... I didn't actually keep the x member there, just got done moving it back about an inch and a half.. i think.

I mocked the wheels up in the wheel well and they sat way forward, moved it back now it's great. i'll get some pics tomorrow... Picked up some free fans from a junkyard today too. I think they were out of an hyundia elantra? or something, pretty low pro, saved me 100 bucks from buying one from somewhere else.. anddddd picked up the reast of my wheels, now i have four of 'em

Are most auto fans an always on and 1 speed setup?

How do you plan to make these work with your truck?

I've been wanting to do the same thing,
just get 2 electric fans cheap,
and remove the fan on my block...

stock fans are turned on via a thermal switch, that switches a relay that turns on the fan.

I've had very bad luck with thermal switches in the past so i'm just running a toggle switch for it.

so pretty much, 12V ign hot > toggle > relay, Battery > relay > fans.

So that measurement should be 3.75" then? Isnt that going to put the shock into the a-arm bolt? It looks really close at the 5.25 you had it at....

yeah it's really close.. but it clears it at full droop... full comp? have not tried that yet. this is starting to get on my nerves... this pic the wheelbase is actually 5/16ths too long... tomorrow I might move it forward a bit, I did see some hole that almost line up as it sits... though then the wb will be even further out.. I guess the good things in life are never easy..

Ya that looks too close just in the pictrue. I'll post the pictures I took of a local '90 that had been convereted. It will be tomorrow though since I dont have them here at work. It was really close too, but I didnt measure between them I dont think. I couldnt get my finger between the shock and the end of the a-arm shaft though.

Its funny you say the wheelbase is 5/16 too long. The wheel looks a little far back to me. If your happy with it, I wouldn't worry about it being that little bit out. I would just double check that it was square and the wheel looked good in the wheelwell.

I like this build, Do you have any pics of the blazer? Sweet wheels! Is that a factory color and if so can you tell me what it is?

No I dont think it's the factory colour, some paint is peeling away and there's a darker blue under it.. i'm pretty sure it's had a 20 buck macco special.

I saw in the what did you do thread you mounted the crossmember. Did you move it again or leave it where it is above?

So that means you will have to turn on the fans every time you turn the truck o on?

Would it be possible to wire them so they turn on when the truck is running?

not Necessarily, if you leave the switch on, the fans will come on when you turn the truck on.. but if you want them to be on all the time.. just remove the toggle switch and run the 12v source straight to the relay.

I like it to be on a toggle as it allows the motor to warm up faster, I don't work a long ways from work and at least 50% of my driving I don't even really need the fans on (short trips and such).
