Dude you would be surprised at how well those plugs worked out, machined fit can't get any better.

Re: my build thread

Well guys some slow progress but progress is progress I guess.
I made my brake adapter plate and finished my firewall shave.

I also needed to change out my tail gate trunnions, I made a set of these for a guy at work so I made my self a set. They are UHMW so they wont rust and they will wear great.

Also non truck related but figured I would share a good idea I had.
So my weekend project was refinishing the wheels on my car. I had some deep scratches from the previous owner. I had always wondered about machining the scratches out.
So I went for it. I clamped them down to the vertical mill and machined .015'' out of the lip of my wheel. It worked out great and I would recommend it to anyone with deep gouges in your wheels.
I then DA'd them with 180 then wet sanded them with 320-400-800-1000-1500-2000 to give me a great finish. I picked up some mothers polish but don't know if I'm going to use it yet. I taped off the lip and here is the finished product.
I know its not a truck but, hey this advice may help to save your nice pickup wheels

Also very non truck related, the machine shop I used to work for went out of business so my work had a killer oppurtunity to buy a bunch of thier stuff for a killer deal. Hell I would have bought it all my self if I had a place to put it.
So I got a shop addition super stoked on it, I got 2 new lathes 2 New CNC milling machines, programming software, tooling... A ton of stuff, that ol Yukon had a heavy load on it. Anyways heres the shop extension I'll get some pics up of my machines when I get all organized.
Expect alot of cool machined goodies going on this truck soon!
Where I'm standing is in my current shop that is bigger than that area.
Cheers guys.

Re: my build thread

I love it. I never woulda thought of milling the wheels. I keep wishing I had a bigger lathe so I could fix some I have. I'll have to give the mill a try.

Re: my build thread

Thanks Captain! I'm all moved in now just super unorganized I'll get some pics up soon.
I planned on using the hydro boost I had laying around but lately I've been re thinking it. Not too sure yet any suggestions on what would be a better set up for my truck?

Re: my build thread

Traded some machine work for a tail gate today. Not the script that I wanted, but when I traded about 10 minutes of labor for it I consider it basically free.

Re: my build thread

Here's some pics of my new equipment in the new shop Captain.
Please excuse the mess still trying to get organized, while being slammed with jobs.
Not the newest of machines but they work great for everything I do.
1987 Wasino Vertical Mill. 20 some tool changer.
New Collet lathe and Jet lathe.
Old school Bridgeport single tool cnc. Damaged durring the move. Working on it now.
My programming area. I use Mastercam 8
Thats the bulk of what we got from my old shop along with piles of tooling. This is what I already had.
Huge Mori Lathe. And Brige mill.
AcraMill

Action shots of a job today. Big aluminum goodies.
And last but not least the sign I made for the door today. Hopefully this keeps most people out. They like to use my shop as a form of short cut.

Re: my build thread

Wow, you've got some nice equipment there. I would be happy with just a simple manual mill and a lathe.

Re: my build thread

Thanks Captain, Yeah we got hooked up. Along with the machinery we got cabinets full of Drill bits, fractional, number and letter, taps, standard, metric and left hand, dies, end mills.
A couple Kurt Vices, 1 1/2'' Dake arbor press and 3 bench grinders all set up to do carbide and high speed steel, as well as a big granite block and a bunch of inspection equipment.

Re: my build thread

We'll not on my truck but my Dad's 38 Ford is getting ready for upholstry and he needed arm rests made. He roughed the profile out and then I cut the recess in the mill to follow the contour. This is the bottom it will have a cover that pops in to cover the wiring for the auto windows and will hide the door pulls. Cool job. Should look good when covered.
Also seeing him working on his car again has got me motivated to get more done on my truck. Gonna be ordering some key pieces soon just can't decide what to order first. A crank or the Flaming river steering joints.
Pics!

Re: my build thread

Today I had a burst of enthusiasm towards the truck. I had a guy at work order me all the goodies to finish the bottom end of my motor, crank, bearings, oil pump, main seal. It will all be here tomorrow morning.
I have just about everything else to finish it now.
I made a cradle for my pistons and a pin to push them out then I installed the new pistons and wrist pins onto the rods.

Re: my build thread

I got all my goodies a few days ago. Now I have everything minus heads. Going to do a machining job for a friend today and try to trade him mine plus the job for a ready to run set.
Then I need to find a free weekend to put it together... Maybe after snowboarding season.

Edit, got the machining job he said I could use that money towards the heads he has, went down to my work to do it today, had to turn and bore a big piece of tube. I was just about done when my boring bar hung up and threw the piece out almost taking my head clean off. It bent it into a oval. Now I have to go pick up new material out of my pocket and start over. The customer said he would pay but thats not right it was my mistake. Just glad to be okay... Scary ordeal.
Hopefully I can find some thinner wall material to start with.

Ha thanks guys, yeah it was freaky, big piece I put my foot in the picture for reference. I'm a tiny guy.
Hopefully I can get back from snowboarding tomorrow in time to make it to the steel shop where he picked up the first piece.

I picked up my heads today, thinking about putting my motor together next weekend, pretty excited! A running motor will really get me motivated to finish this thing.

Re: my build thread

Just ordered my steering joints. Went FlamingRiver. Easier to find in Summit haha.
Also working on a deal right now, trading a watts link center section for, a complete set of valves, and after I get my tax refund I'll dump all that into finishing the air system.

Painted the fire wall last night and worked on the brakes..
Its coming together finally
