A little bit disappointed

i have only had my truck for 5 days. when i traded for it the P.O. "thought" it had a 350 but wasn't sure.

i just pulled the casting number and the stampings off the front of the block. it is a 305. Not that i really have anything against them and the truck does run good but DANG IT!!!!

have also figured out that the lock up 350 trans has been replaced buy a plain old th350

Can't be that big of a deal or else you would have checked before trading. Lockup 350's only drop a couple hundred rpm anyways.

yup either way was not a deal breaker. it started and ran good and has a straight body. And i was tired of driving a ford

ive had 4 of these trucks all lwb and 2 of them were 305s

The only two numbers which mean anything is measuring the bore or reading the number on the block behind the driver side said.

My alternator stamp on the front of the block said my truck is a 305 but the engine is really a 350 as per the bore of the block.

As a driver type truck a 305 is more then enough power.If you got the budget you can throw just about any engine and trans in your truck.

Unless youre looking to build some big power, a 305 will do ya just fine. They get dogged on when it comes to building one vs a 350 but if its already in there basic bolt ons will help and will transfer over if you ever swap it.

I gained 50 horsepower and 45 torque with a cam swap on my TPI 305 in my '86 Trans Am and was still able to tune it to get 26 MPG (with 700R4), so there ain't nothing wrong with a 305. It was the Summit 1104 camshaft and lifter kit for only around a hundred bucks too.

I also had a 305 with the TH350C in my '86 C10 and threw a rebuild Quadrajet from Mountain Man Fuel Systems along with a Summit stage 1 intake manifold and true duals from the salvage yard and that thing spun the tires through first gear and would get 18-19 MPG on the highway. I wanted to do a cam in it, but sold it due to some temporary living conditions after a divorce... Fun times.

The original 305/350C in my 85 has a Edelbrock Air Gap intake, 1406 carb, Hooker headers with Flowmaster true duals and has plenty of pep for me.

14010201 on driver side rear flange is the one im going off of

whats really funny is 6 months ago i gave away a 1969 350 4bolt main standard bore because i didnt think i would have a chevy any time soon lol

the truck has good pep with an edelbrock dual plane intake, a 1405 carb, and dual exhaust.

will do some long tube headers soon and I am going to add an overdrive transmission since most of my driving will be on highways
