The inner lower shaft seems to be a little short

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't ALL 67-72 tilt columns black and for AUTO SHIFT ONLY? Something smells fishy here.

I may be wrong on this, no expert by any means, but is that not a Neutral Safety Switch toward the lower end of the column? Why would you need a NSS on a 4-speed manual shift column? Someone smarter than I care to comment?

Talking

I agree with Jose, the shaft appears to be short. The shaft extension may make up the difference, but it may be an issue. If anyone on the board is contemplating on buying it, I would suggest the right to inspect with the right of refusal. That is a lot of money to pay for a column, unless it is the real thing.

Ironhorse is right, you don't need a neutral safety switch on a four speed, but the columns were all punched with the switch opening as far as I know and someone could have added the switch.

NSS

I could see someone adding a NSS if they converted to a floor shift auto. That would be a nice set up for that application. I'd do it anyhow. Have a buddy with a floor shift auto who managed to run himself over because he converted to a floor shift auto without a NSS. Reached in to start it and the rear tire (36") caught his foot, traveled up his leg, and then continued up the driveway through his garage door and hit is '67 Chevy II. Hard way to learn a lesson!

For the neutral safety switch to work the column would have to turn inside when you use the floor shift.

I was thinking of putting an auto floor shifter in mine and just grinding and filling on the columns shifter housing bell thing. Never hit me I would have no neutral safety switch, I'll have to think somemore on that one I guess. I made that mistake once before on a Camaro I had changed to an aftermarket shifter. Maybe keep the linkage hooked to the column and even leave the indicator just no shifter? (excuse me as I think out loud)

Just looked, the shifter I want comes with the switch, good deal.

I have an original 4speed tilt in my 71 and there is no provision on the column for a nss it's a solid column with no knock out at all for a nss
whoever ends up with that column is payying out the A$$ for a piece of deceptive crap for that price he could get a brand new flaming river chrome column
