Oh wow. I think that's a little worse than "typical".

Re: Craigslist ad

I never knew Texas was part of the rust belt. If this truck were being sold in, say, Michigan, it would indeed qualify as "nothing major," since "major" in Michigan - at least when I lived there, long time ago - required holes in the floor large enough to lose your Golden Retriever through.

Houston is right on the Gulf of Mexico with that nice salt air.

Its funny that the ad says "nothing major" but has photos that indicate otherwise. Usually the seller leaves out those types of photos and you don't find out til you see it in person!

Re: Craigslist ad

Actually I've seen worse in any coastal town. I was born and raised in Corpus and most cars and trucks of that era were super rusty after about 15 years -especially if not taken care of and rinsed off almost every day.

Brother bought a 70's nova some years ago and found out most of it was bondo and even expandable foam. They did a good job of hiding it until he had a fender bender.

Re: Craigslist ad

I wish my truck had that little rust. My rockers cab corners and floor used to be non existant. The only bad thing is the upper cab rust. That would be nice for me otherwise. But i wouldn't pay that much for it.

I grew up near Port Lavaca so a few years ago when my day told me he found a 71 c10 Cheyenne Super lwb for $3k i was skeptical and figured it would be like this one. Turned out it was super clean original copper and white paint, no rust. It had the bb 400, ac, tach, factory cruise (!) dealer installed ac delco air compressor with dash control for rear air shocks. My brother bought it since i had just bought a house and was broke. He cleaned it up, put tires shocks and a nice used front bumper on it, drove it to Virginia and sold it for $14k!

Re: Craigslist ad

I guess I'm just used to living in PA but it doesn't look THAT bad to me. (bad for Texas)

Now I don't know what other parts of the truck are like but if it's just the cab roof & rockers, those are commonly rotted out in my state.

Re: Craigslist ad

Cars and trucks rust a bit different on the coast. Instead of the lower body where they are exposed to the road salts in the east, they are attacked by the salt air, and consequently, the whole truck will usually have problems, including drip rails and around the windshield, anywhere moisture can accumulate. IMO it can be a quite a bit worse on the coast because those areas are harder to fix.
