Roadside fuel pressure regulator help needed.

I'm helping a friend get a P30 chassis 1984 motorhome down the road and we have run into a huge problem. It's a 454 with a quadrajet that I rebuilt yesterday. It has an electric Carter fuel pump in the rear and a brand new mechanical pump on the motor. The carb is being inundated with fuel as its coming out of the top of the carb. We stopped by a parts store and got a cheap spectre pressure regulator. It doesn't work, filled a water bottle up in a few seconds on the lowest setting. I tore the carb back down, lowered the float to 3/8 below the carb body. Even with the mechanically pump bypassed, it still floods the carb. We're thinking of bypassing the electric pump and seeing if the mechanically pump candidate get fuel to the front. Any suggestions?

Did you hang the needle clip on the float correctly?
Common flooding problem if not done right.

What pump did you put in? Got a part number or link? Specs?

I removed the clip. I run all of my quadrajets that way. If I put it back on, how does it go?

I think you are confusing pressure with volume. The only way to measure pressure is on a closed system with a gauge. The pressure is what overcomes the needle valve, not volume. I'd plumb in a gauge to verify. I don't imagine that you need a regulator though.

I do agree that you may have a needle and seat problem.

Re: Roadside fuel pressure regulator help needed.

Turns out, there was an unseen sliver of aluminum in the seat. Removed it and it runs like a top. Thank you guys for the help.
