Sounds like my truck. I had to replace pretty much everything.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

First work I've done on the new 66 since I got it last week, changed the oil, oil filter - it was dirty! Then just popped in a new air filter to replace the one that was crushed, was going to do a differential fluid change but luckily I realized they gave me the wrong gasket before I unbolted everything. Cleaned up the engine area a bit, then just spent a few hours under the truck trying to learn more about it.

I almost finished the disassembly of my TH350. But got to the low-reverse spring retainer and didn't succeed in getting it out without the proper tool.

Pulled the extra tanks out ...for now! They need some work as you can see. The bolts are rusted to the tanks and would not budge! A busted elbow and some grinding took care of that though, and out they came!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I took my tranny to a local trans shop to have them take the low-reverse piston out. On a promise I'd take it back to get bushings put in when my rebuild kit comes, he didn't charge me a dime.

Went home and started cleaning... 3.5 hrs later.... :-)

Changed/cleaned out my fuel filter last night. This is after maybe 100 miles. Good thing I put a filter between the tank and pump. Just trying to limp this thing along (rarely driven) until I get everything for my motor swap.

I'm not fooling with this tank, which is why I put the filter in. Its quick and easy to clean out with its replacement filters. Didn't think it get that dirty this quick though.

I already have this

to go with this

Post Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I came back from saying good bye to Pops , went by the paint jail where they've actually begun taking my truck apart , boy howdy is that rust bad ! . they said they'll begin bead blasting my new cab Thursday 8/28 .

Looking at those fresh cylinder heads , looks good .

Mostly what the DIY'er can do best without ruining the heads by over porting is : unshroud the valve bosses as this is the # 1 pinch point in flow both intake and exhaust .

Never polish the intake ports ! they need to be rough to maintain the fuel mix ~ polishing the intake tracts allows fuel mist to separate and cling to the tract walls .

Polishing the exhaust ports and matching them to the exhaust manifold/header size gives HUGE gains in flow .

It's a good news, bad news thing.
Good news.
Brought something home from vacation. It's a 6.0L and a 4L80E.
It's amazing how cheep things are once you get out of California.
Bad news.
When I got back, my Suburban was supposed to be out of the paint shop. He has not touched it any further. Then I'm told, "I need $9400.00 more or I won't finish it". I am already into it for over $5000.00 and supposed to pay $2500.00 more. So, it came home. The outside looks close to done, inside needs work.
Anybody know a good reasonable painter in the San Bernardino area?

I have the motor cover about done. I also have a new pan for the electric fans to install also.
Cover will go back to shop on Monday to have the front piece weld on it. Drove the truck this morning and it ran fine didn't notice any heat build up at all and temp gauge read just fine.

I worked on getting the interior floor cleaned out today & getting it ready to install the sound deader, new carpet and new seatbelts. The seat is at the upholstery shop getting done. It's going to look great after it's all done. I set the carpet in there temporary just to see how it's going look.
