Re: LS Noob Help ..Truck intake ?

The best guide I found, was to buy a one-year subscription to AlldataDIY. This gives you all the factory literature for your donor engine, including wiring harness routing, connector pinouts, troubleshooting procedures, etc.

Re: LS Noob Help ..Truck intake ?

There really aren't many vacuum hoses on an LS engine. Being a newer one, even less than the older ones. You probably have a big hose at the back of the intake for power brakes, and a purge solenoid on the top of the intake and that's about it for vacuum lines. The purge solenoid lines can be removed if you are not doing a full emission swap. Just leave the solenoid in there to plug the hole, its normally closed so as long as it doesn't have power going to it. it will be fine The other two, I guess you could call them vacuum hoses, are the PCV hose, which you shouldn't need to do anything with, and the hose from the throttle body to the valve cover which should require no attention either. Then there is the fuel line to the rail, should be pretty self explanatory, and two small coolant hoses from the crossover on the heads to the throttle body, which will need to be hooked to the radiator. You can bypass the throttle body if you want, and if you don't want to have a fitting added to your radiator, you can plumb it back into the water pump.

Re: LS Noob Help ..Truck intake ?

you don't need to eliminate any of this

heres what I can readily identify...
1. pcv fresh air side--hooks into intake tube in front of throttle
2. pcv system
3. hose going to the purge solenoid
4. map sensor
5. purge solenoid
6. vacuum fitting for brake booster

If you're doing that, then its a whole new ballgame. Plus, be prepared to spend some coin, because going that route isn't cheap. I did a similar set up on a '59 Chevy once, looked cool but cost a bit just to make it look like it didn't have an LS in it. LOL

Anyway, for what you have now, going on the numbers Mongo supplied,

1 and 2 are the PCV hoses, just leave them alone.
3 is the hose going to the purge solenoid, 5, which you can remove. The green cap is the fitting for doing a smoke test on the evap system, again, you wont need it.
4 is the MAP sensor
6 is a plug where you could hook up a power brake booster. To do that you need to remove the plug and put in a nipple to hook the hose to.

Re: LS Noob Help ..Truck intake ?

i was going for a overall theme on mine is why I went this direction..probably wouldn't do it again on any other truck because of cost...id just use a LS3 intake
heres what comes from summit

1. intake holley 300-136.........$325.00
2. fuel rails holley 534-218......$163.00
3. assorted fittings..................$50.00+ the rails don't come with any plugs or fittings
4. bosch style ev1 injectors......$ 180.00+... I modified my stock injectors to work with the holley system
5. and youll have to change your harness plugs to match injector plugs if you use some aftermarket injectors....$$+
6. adaptor plate TB to 4150 pattern....i made mine...would have cost $200+ at machine shop
so around $1k +$$$

Re: LS Noob Help ..Truck intake ?

Nice IH by the way. I own a 1959 B100 and a 1965 C1100 Travelette. Not many dove into the IHs, but I love them.

Thanks to everyone on this thread! This answered my brake booster question, and clarified where we thought the other lines went.
