Re: "Looks" stories

[QUOTE=Texasbigblock;2826281]yea, it sure is funny how everyone thinks they own a race car when you have a nice old truck....QUOTE]

I have had a few young guys become impressed when the old man stood on it, but your statement reminded me of the time when I was that young guy. I had a new VW Super Beetle that I had installed an EMPI Extractor on, with the EMPI 8-spoke wheels. Pinto's were new and I was on a rural highway, when the Pinto passed me. I couldn't have that, so I passed them. They passed me, again. When I went around them the second time, my speedometer needle was pegged by the oil light. A few days later, one of the guys I worked with, who drove a Caddy, said "It doesn't matter what you drive, some guy in VW is going to try and race you".

Nowadays, it ain't the VW's that try to race...it's the ricers and the kids in their trucks that they think just as much of as we do of ours.

Re: "Looks" stories

Yeah, the "how do you afford to fill that thing up?" comments always get me. Usually someone in a vehicle that's less than two years old, so I just think to myself--even at $4/gallon, it's a heckuva lot cheaper than the $10k they just lost in depreciation when they drove theirs off the lot. (Or their habit of drinking $3 pints of bottled water!)

I do enjoy the different reactions, though--

Nobody has any good stories of country girls that just loved your truck too much? Except for the one about the hot girl w/the dip in her lip that was in a thread a while back?

Funny you should mention that because when I was in high school in the late 90's I was sitting at a red light and my truck had a loud stereo system in it and George Strait's "The Fireman", at least I think that's the name of the song was playing. These 2 women pull up next to me in an S-10, one of them wearing those big Raybands, or however they're spelled, and the other some wrap-around sunglasses. They both were wearing sleeveless shirts and one had a rebel flag on it, and I believe one of them had a gap between her top 2 front teeth. They heard the song playing on my radio and honked the horn and started bouncing up and down in their truck and were telling me to "TURN IT UP" and making the turn it up motion with their thumbs. I turned it up some so they would leave me alone. One other thing, one had bleached blonde hair and both had mullets. YEE-HAW

Re: "Looks" stories

here's one that just happened this weekend. first a little back story. my son had made a comment earlier in the week on how my truck will "sit" and "lay down" like a dog. sit = air out the rear, lay down = air the whole thing out at once.

well this weekend my son and I were coming home from DQ when a couple guys in a truck pulling a trailer pulled up next to us at a light. I got the usual "nice truck man" from both of them. my reply then was "thanks. hey, i taught it a new trick. It can lay down" and then i aired it out.

i think the dude in the passenger side about climbed over the driver and out the window to see it! it was hilarious their reaction. gave my son and i a good laugh, and those guys a good laugh.

with this little joke my son came up with, i think it's time i wire up my bags into my door popper remote. one double button channel to "sit", and another double button channel to "lay"

maybe another to air up just one front wheel to "shake"

IvelDesigns. if you really want to scare the crap out of them tie in another line from your air tank and put in a couple semi horns under the bed.

Re: "Looks" stories

I guess I shouldn't be surprised but I get asked if my truck is my wifes. The color attracts attention and get many thumbs up while driving and nearly always get a comment or question from someone at the pumps when i'm gasing up. I've had 3 notes left under the wiper from potential buyers.

Re: "Looks" stories

I get a fair amount of thumbs up and head nods.

The worst was from my next door neighbor. The first time we taked about my truck, right after he moved in, he mentioned something about needing to fix his old truck up. Turns out he has a '81 F150. Give me a break.

Re: "Looks" stories

I have a good one.

One of my buddies moved to Phoenix about a year ago to take on an occupational therapist job and flew up this past Christmas to spend the holidays with this family. He is actually in a wheel chair and needed something with an automatic transmission and easy to get in and out of to drive while he was in town. Well, my old 72 C20 beater fit the bill perfectly as his hand controls were very easy to temporarily hook up.

Anyway, New Years day he was at the gas station putting gas in the ole beater and some old guy at the pump next to him stepped around the pump and handed him a pile of $20 bills and said “God, bless you young man….Happy New Year”. I am sure the old dude probably felt he was doing the right thing by giving money to what appeared to be a poor guy in a wheel chair that has nothing more to drive than an old piece of crap truck. My buddy being a paraplegic since birth is used to people offering handouts which absolutely drive’s him crazy as he can do more in that chair than most of us can do on our feet.

He politely gave the old guy the money back and told him he appreciated the kind gesture but he is not in need of any financial assistance. The old guy insisted that he take the money which my buddy finally did but he took it inside the gas station and dropped it in a donation pickle jar on the counter for some kind of fund raiser. That is the kind of guy he is. And…he never even counted the money!

Me? Nobody gives me anything when I drive this old truck except for dirty looks.

Re: "Looks" stories

I think we all smile a little and feel proud when we get a look or a thumbs up. I just finished mine and have driven it for a couple of weeks and have gotten one broken neck look. That being said as much as I love my truck and did the restore for me and my son. I had a 71 Rallysport Camaro(split bumper) and I could not get out of that thing without an offer to buy or a cool car. It was almost annoying after awhile. Kinda like paparazzi around celebrities.( I know: Lame comparison.) I don't think people appreciate these trucks like they do the cars like Mustangs, Camaros and Chevelles. It reflects it in the book values of these trucks and at cars shows as opposed to the cars. I am sure in the future I will get more looks and thumbs up, but boy that Camaro!!

Re: "Looks" stories

My bodyshop guy called today and had a story for me it seems like while it was up on the lifts getting checked over for what rust damage needed fixed on it he had a customer come in and make a b-line to it. They were checking out the side view and asked what was the plan on it. He passed on the information and the guy said thats a great plan. Then he walked around to the front end and said "Too bad its a GMC though not worth the effort" This pissed my body guy off since he has a few of these laying around and he proptly added 10% to the price of the repairs of the customers vehicle for insulting the truck and in his mind the talent it will take to fix it!

Best Story "GQ"

Drove her down to the gas station as I was headed to a local cruise in (30's
something chick filling up when I rumbled up) and just left her running. All of
the awning over the pump was rattle'n from the exhaust as I was pumping in
the Premium. She hollered over "That's on bad arse ride you got there" Then
I immediately said TY, too which she said " I bet you could get lost in that
thing real easy "Then I said "She's never been off road" once more she
replied right back, "I just Luv the idea of being topless" And here's the real
bummer part, I replied "Thanks, but I'm married" & still wanted my number.

Best Story "Merlot"

Believe it or not, last year headed to Ron 586's I had almost the same offer,
this time she spelled it out for me (Sometimes being married reallu sucks)

Oh yea

I've had people chase me down for cell phone pic's, but not as as above.

Note to self...install the loudest Flowmaster exhaust you can on your truck and pull into gas stations whenever you see a pretty woman at the pump.

Nice story ksjh1316. I like the 67-68 Chevy front ends the most but I love the GMC front ends too. Guess those guys don't realize that there are fewer GMCs out there than Chevys. I'd take a GMC any day.

Re: "Looks" stories

Living in rural idaho I get big smiles, and then asked what the heck I was thinking LOWERING a truck...

Usually I get the "you need to raise that thing at least six eight inches!

One of the reasons I want to bag it so I can lay some frame in the parking lot at the store.
