Bad News...:(

well.

this christmas, from a truck stand point, is not going to be a good one.

after adjusting the clutch, my dad decided to take the ol' girl for a spin. this, on icy roads, resulted in...literally. a spin. 360 degrees. plus a tree.

don't worry, he's fine.

but i have a bit more work to do.

the front clip is...totaled.

i'm not in the greatest mood. so, i'll post pics later.

yeahh...

so! hope your holidays are better than this incident. haha

take it easy.

-Sam.

As long as Dad's okay...the rest is just wrinkled sheet metal & can be repaired, or replaced.

But that still sucks.

Re: Bad News...:(

thanks for the support all.

it's behind me now. it IS just sheet metal and bolts. it's nothing new. simply a machine.

it won't be feeling left out or alone or depressed tomorrow on Christmas day.

we've had some words, but we're good. it's going to be a good Christmas.

and besides. i kinda missed working on the ol' girl. kinda.

and this'll just mean more time for my Dad and I to wrench on it.

so. not all things are bad.

...sometimes i hate being an optimist. haha. oh well.

thanks again all!

Thumbs up Re: Bad News...:(

glad you dad is alright. i'm sure you can fix/replace the sheetmetal and if dad helps, that makes it even better. my dad is almost 77 years and i cherish every minute we get to spend together--we even went deer hunting together this past season and filled all of our tags so i am happy to have him around. by the way, i lost my mom to cancer in 1976 when i had just graduated high school so parents have extra special meaning to me.

best wishes and happy holidays to you and your dad.

Re: Bad News...:(

Man that sucks, but like everyone else says the truck is fixable/replaceable. My dad hit a deer in my '82 Z28 about 15 years ago, and totally tore the front clip up, but my dad helped my do all the body work and painted it for me when I got it. He helped me do it all again, and it looked even better the second time around.

Re: Bad News...:(

alright, as promised, pics.

sorry about the bad queslity, low light in the garage.

i agree with everyone, i'm not real bummed about it all. ok, still a little, just because i could almost taste liscensing it and enjoying a cruise.

but, dad is just fine. he feels terrible about it, more so than me.. but i know he'll help me fix it.

the only issue now is finding straight fenders to put on her. i have everything else...hood, cowl, radiator.

pending if the core support is ok, i have one from a 67-68 that is in good condition, along with a matching grill and hood.

so, theres some things still up in the air and in limbo until i get the rest of it tore apart. hood and cowl are off as of now. so, yes.

i'll keep everyone posted.

thanks again for the support all. i really appreciate it.

it just gets frustrating, but...don't we all know that.

thanks Deuce.

Don't worry, as soon as i get the cows taken care of, and check to see if Mom needs any help cooking dinner, i'm heading out to the garage.

come hell or high water, i'll get her back together.

actually, the first might be oreferable. it's a bit nippy out there now...lol

i'll keep you all posted, thanks again for your support.

That's the beauty of having done all the work yourself up to now, you know how it comes apart and goes back together. I really enjoyed your build thread, and look forward to updates and pics.

Did he say how the clutch was?I figured with everything that`s been said,I`d ask a silly question. You have a good attitude about it.Is the grille and support ok?It looks like it.

Re: Bad News...:(

Kage-

yup. it should be pretty simple to unbolt, and bolt back together. don't worry, i'll be sure to take pics.

Special-K -

yup. the clutch is alot better, haha. couldn't smell it a bit, and there was no slipping to be found.

the grille and core support look to be fine - just the right angle brackets from fender to rad support is bent. but thats minor.

so, from my inspection so far, the damage is limited to the drivers fender, the hood, the cowl...hopefully the inner fender and core support is alright. the passenger fender had a ding in it, but i think i can fix that.

so, thats where she stands now.

i'll keep you all updated.

Shoot, if I wasn't in Japan, I have a set off the Blazer you could have. Just would have needed to pay shipping. Don't think the little woman can get them down out of the rafters in the garage tho. Good luck with it and glad you Pop is ok.

Re: Bad News...:(

yup, ignoring comments like that is kind of peaceful. .

just to update, i checked my inventory, so to speak, and have a straight driver side fender, that only needs the front cup replaced (which i have one off of another scrap fender) and the side marker shaved to keep up with continuity.

from the looks of it, the front of the frame back to the rad support got shifted over a bit. which caused the damage to the pass. fender. that can be fixed. and if thats all...well. i'm doing pretty good.

oh! more good news. i found the driver side eyebrow trim this morning as well, while driving past where the tree raped my truck. so, one less thing i have to buy. just gotta put the studs back in it.

things just keep getting better and better, eh?
