What other fuel tanks have been used?

What factory tank has been used out back in place of the stock tank? Looking for something like a late tahoe with pump and sender already installed to feed the LT-1. Trying not to break the bank with a new Stainless one yet.

Some have used later model blazer tanks with internal pumps but their really large, like 30 gallons or something close to that.

I looked into one, actually had it sitting under the blazer at the shop and said to myself, no freakin' way am I willing to do what it takes to make it fit.

Maybe an actual Tahoe tank might be different.

I ended up going with a fuel cell.
Was less than 35% more than a full factory tank/pump/pieces.

Yeah it was more but in the end, the better result.
Next build will get one too.

which fuel cell did you use? Summit has a poly tank that seems close.

I had another board member that goes by the name of 'Fuel Cell Guy' build me one that gave me the ground clearance I was needing.

Fuelcellguy still ends up being about $600 by the time it's all said and done.

The Summit cell will work, but then you still need a pump. Tanks inc. has these for ~$200, plus mounting straps puts you at around $400.

I bought a surplus late Blazer tank that I think I will have sectioned by my local radiator shop and use the '87-up sending unit with a Walbro pump.

Question for ya guys. I have a 37 gal tank I got on a blazer I bought it has a pancake size dent in it in the bottom Is it possible to have this taken out with out it exploding or damaging the tank? Oh yea sorry If I seemed Like I HIjacked this thread but it just a question pertaining to Gas tanks

True, actually a little bit more than that after shipping BUT he did it my way.

Worked with me alot discussing the demensions I was looking for, well worth the cost IMO.

There are always places to find it for less and ways of doing it cheaper, the choices are out there for sure.

I was considering a 26 gal tahoe tank. I measured the big 30+ gal tank and it is just too big.

The No Limit tank doesn't have an intake pump so it is no better than a stock tank.

Fuel Cell Guy has dropped off the earth I think and for that money I would rather buy a new Rick's Hot Rod tank and pump setup.

I haven't considered a fuel cell, looking for something for factory appearing.

I went through this whole thing when I was considering using the Vortec injection system from a 1999 Tahoe. The stock tank is too long and an odd shape. Most of all the tanks that I considered were to big, or the shape would have made the installation difficult. I looked at van, S-10, Tahoe, and newer Blazer tanks. It ended up being the deal breaker for me. The only option that fit the needs that I wanted was a custom tank like the one VT had made. One thing I was cautioned about was to make sure that the tank was built from someone that had a DOT certification. The point made to me was, if you were ever involved in a crash where the tank ruptured with a non-certified tank and someone was hurt as a result, then you would be liable. In the end, I am going with a carb to get it going for less money for now.

I have used Blazer tanks in LWB trucks, but im sure withe a liitle work they will fit a Blazer. www.spectrapremium.com has all the tanks and pump listings and all sizes on there website. My last tank I used was the GM 15. Fit perfect.

These work good on the trucks, but are too long for the Blazers. Won't fit without trimming the rear bed sill on my 2wd. Not worth it to me. The 4wd guys might be able to get away with it since there's no panhard in the way...

Stock tanks w/aftermarket pumps should work w/Vortec. electric pumps are made to push, not pull, fuel, and that's why they are in the tank. I've got another Q: those that have put fuel doors in front of the rear wheels (TonyP?)- what tank and plumbing did you use?

I've been searching for a while for a solution to this problem and may have come up with one:

The 87-90 Jeep wrangler 2.5 4cyl EFI tank uses a GM fuel sender. The GM in tank pump or an equivalent Walbro should swap right in place of the stock pump. Its dimensions are 25.25"W x 18.25"L x 10.75"H.

Pros:
Correct 0-90ohm sender
Pump compatibility
Tanks readily available aftermarket- steel or poly- and cheap

Cons:
Only 15 Gallons
Sending unit is nearly unavailable- I found one place that has them for $175!
Will need an upper strap because tank will not snug up against the frame rails- too narrow
May have to move rear crossmember a few inches back. I have not measured yet

Good thing about the sending unit- the '87 Blazer 25 gallon tank is the same depth so it should be a bolt-in affair if you can't find the Jeep one cheap. The Blazer sender can be had all day long for ~$60.

So- Jeep tank($80), Blazer sender($60), Walbro pump($100)= `$250 all brand new parts. If you can find the Jeep tank and the Tahoe pump in the yard you could potentially do this for less than $100!

Now someone just has to guinea pig this...

'87 Blazer should be an FI tank, so I will take a very close look at it. The 15 gal on the Jeep tank is a deal breaker for me. It has too have the same or more than the original
