Where to start? Need to build my shopping list

Haven't bought a car stereo in 20 years (Bear with me -- I'm old ). So, what will I need to run a simple system in my truck? How much is too much? Here are some wishes:

* I have holes cut in my dorrs already (PO, not me)
* I want to tuck the stereo away in the glove box
* I want to run my MP3 player and don't really care about CD's, radio, etc.
* It has to be able to be heard over the noise in the cab

Figured you all would have suggestions about an OK stereo/amp/sub/speaker combo for me.

Thanks ahead of time for the assistance.
