Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread

Last weekend was the Hot Wheels Convention in LA and at the convention it was revealed that there will be at least 3 and possibly 4 new releases of the '83 Silverado for 2018.

There will be a display case sold with an exclusive black '83 Silverado. The graphic designer has said that the truck will come with Real Riders wheels versus the basic wheels seen in pictures. The case will retail for $50 and is reportedly a Wal-Mart exclusive.

The red truck will be part of a Target exclusive Decades series.

No pictures have been shown of it yet, but there will be an '83 Silverado in the Car Culture series with a metal base and Real Riders. It will be part of the Shop Trucks subseries.

Wal-Mart will also be having an exclusive 100th Anniversary Chevy Trucks series. It hasn't been confirmed that there will be an '83 Silverado in it, but it'd be hard to imagine such a series without one.

Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread

The Matchbox Chevy Trucks 100 Years series is showing up in Wal-Marts now with the brown '75 Stepside. I've found other trucks in the series, but not the stepside yet.

The black Hot Wheels '83 Silverado that was shown with the display case at the convention isn't the one that will be sold with the case. That truck turns out to be the one for Hot Wheels' version of the Chevy Trucks 100 Years series, which will be at Wal-Mart beginning in February.

No word on when the Target Decades series will start showing up.

That leaves two more '83 Silverados for 2018, but nobody has shown pics of them yet. There will be the Car Culture - Shop Trucks release which will be metal/metal with Real Riders and then there will be the one released with the display case (hopefully they haven't changed their mind on that one).

Maisto did a pretty darn good job, it looks like. Are these a little bigger? Maisto always seems to make theirs a little bigger scale.

These are nearly identical in size to the Hot Wheels 83 Silverado but with a ton more details. These are by far the most detailed Squarebody casting in a 1:64 scale.

I'll have to take some comparison shots sometime, but the body of the Maisto truck is maybe 3/32" wider than the Hot Wheels and the overall bumper-to-bumper length of the Maisto is about half the rear bumper longer than the Hot Wheels. So, they're basically the same size.

With all the variations there will be no shortage of square bodies to collect. They remind me of the Tomicas that I collect. Very high quality and detail...such as opening doors and hood. Tomica makes the JLs I believe.

Back in September they posted this pic of 3D printed prototypes covering the various grille styles, body configurations and suspension heights, so those 4 coming out this summer look to be just the beginning for Auto World.

I remember that. I just don't keep up with them like I used to. Looking forward to seeing what all AutoWorld brings out.

Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread

They are in stores. You can buy them all day long on Ebay for e$tra. I only have a few. I don't really care for many of the versions. I'd like to do some customs but not after paying so much. I wish they'd do some normal paint jobs, like all one color

Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread

The only current Hot Wheels release is the yellow truck in the Wal-Mart exclusive American Pickup series. These trucks always get scooped up quickly, but this one is an even faster mover since it has a metal base. Customizers are going crazy over it and for only $2.14 at retail.

You might get lucky and find the display case with its '83 Silverado in a store somewhere, though I've never seen it in stores. I bought mine off of Amazon where you can still find them for less than retail.

Matchbox has a really nice new release of its Blazer casting currently in stores. I've been working on collecting these lately and the newest one is one of the best looking of the bunch.

The Maisto Tow & Go set is still popping up in stores too. I just found one last week at Wal-Mart.

Hot Wheels will have another mainline '83 Silverado out later this year in the HW Art Cars series.

Then you have the first Auto World squares coming out this summer and I've seen a rumor of them having a K5 release by the end of the year. Greenlight is supposedly going to release a Fall Guy truck as well.

They're out there. And they're coming. If you really want to find them, though, you have to be diligent in your searching for them because they're all hot properties right now.

I picked up a second one of these along with the rest of the ten truck set. I also got a second '62 from the set.

Re: 73-87 hot wheels and die cast thread

I have stumbled onto the '67 and the '62 at the store, but no '83 so far. I got that MB Blazer, too. I always like theirs and HW. I remember when they came out and I wasn't necessarily collection back then. That was when I was out buying for my son and back looking at toys again as an adult. I started buying 'extras'
