Is this original items found behind back panels of 71 Jimmy?

I pulled the panels in the rear of my Jimmy and found this - I'm trying to figure out if it is original, and if so what are the bars for around the red box? Also, there are long rods that snap on to the topper - full length. What are these for?? thanks.

No, it's not original. No idea what the rods are, but it doesn't help not being able to see them in their entirety.

No, not original. The aluminum frames for fastening the side panels aren't either.

Thanks - I had my doubts.... Looks like someone put some time into it. Still need to figure out what the stuff is for.

Looks like a tarp stuffed in there. Maybe its for an awning off of the back, or side. Any odd holes, or bolts around the outside? Looks like something is missing below the red box, Jack handle?

What are the aluminum poles on the top of the bedrails?

I agree that the long poles appear to be for an awning. The grommet on the awning slips into the top part of the pole.

My best guess would be one of the tents that you can attach to the rear of your open tailgate kinda like this ....

Definitely not stock. But a lot of thought and craftsmanship went into the framework.
