Five to six lug?

I have a 71/72 SWB C10 frame. Someone rolled a 6 lug posi in the rear. I have a bunch of the 15x8 6 lug four nub steel wheels (none for sale) and was thinking I could convert my front disk five lug to six lug. Seems bassackwards but has anyone done this? I know companies make 6 lug rotors but am unsure if I could simply swap out rotors.

Re: Five to six lug?

Keeping the rear 6 lug and converting the fronts to six lug would allow me to use use wheels I already have, saving me money. And not having to replace the rear with a five lug axle assembly of which I would have to purchase, or get five lug axles to convert the six to five which I would also have to purchase, saves me money. I am aware of axle widths.

I will contact CPP directly and see if they make a rotor for what Im thinking of doing.

Thanks for the responses so far!!!

Re: Five to six lug?

71-72 5-lug means disc brakes already so you just need the 'conversion' 6-lug rotors. These are available from many of the aftermarket companies that sell disc conversion kits for those swapping their drum equipped trucks over to disc.

Possibly.... The wheels need to be disc brake spec'd off of a 71 or later 4wd.

I guess my thoughts on this were, are these drum to disk conversion rotors made to fit earlier spindles? Or are they just what I was hoping they were, five lug disk to six lug disk rotors that work fine on stock spindles. The questions asked on the product page weren't definitive to me.

I recall 71-72 used the same wheel bearings as 73 & later; they just used different BJ's & TRE's thus the reason for different disc brake spindles.

A quick O'reilly's check showed 71-72 c10's use A3 outer/A5 inner bearings & a 74 c10 uses A3 outer/A5 inner (both considered the HD/1.25" rotor app; Lt duty/1" rotor apps use the A6 inner).
