SB StepSide angle strip removal

Has anyone ever removed the angle strip from a bedside of a stepside? The truck I bought a bit ago (which is eating my lunch) has rust bubbling up behind the strips. I picked up new strips but it appears the original ones are spot welded on - many times......

I would rather not destroy the bedsides trying to grind them off :/

Any guidance would be FANTASTIC!

Re: SB StepSide angle strip removal

Bad thing about a spot weld bit is that itll drill thru your bedside to cut the spot weld out....
Actually grinding the welds off will do the least amount of damage...but if your gonna weld the new strips back on the paint damage or holes wont be a issue...
