Re: 1959 GMC Fleet - 2wd to 4wd

Someone asked me if my new speedo for the 59 GMC worked ok, It does, an expensive little dude but I had to have one.

Other, a little more progress on the 59. I did paint the left door but did it off the truck at a 45 degree angle ---- nope -- metallic lays different so I will repaint it sometime on the truck.

Re: 1959 GMC Fleet - 2wd to 4wd

Interior has moved forward. I have extra green carpet that I can still convert some seat panels to the green carpet. I have the bottom of the dash to finish in satin black and the steering wheel needs restored then also painted. The molded carpet came from ACC out of SC/GA/AL and has the matte backing - they did a nice job.

Re: 1959 GMC Fleet - 2wd to 4wd

I did change the 250 I6 for a 350. The trans and transfer case had to move forward 1.5 inches. I had to get a long yoke for the rear driveshaft. The front driveshaft is ok. This moved some weight forward so I resolved it the same as I had the 67 when I put the bbc in.

The six had been rebuilt in its life and could still be a good engine but I think it needs a new or good cam with lifters. Those parts cost new over $300. If someone took out a good cam for a 250 I6, I would be interested.

If you want to come get it I will give you a 250 from a parts truck. Carb is toast so no idea how well it runs

Re: 1959 GMC Fleet - 2wd to 4wd

I take eastern TN may be toward Knoxville. I do occasionally make it that direction when I visit my daughter in Atlanta. I would buy just a good used cam if I found one. Maybe someday. 8-)
