Picking up a parts motor on Thursday. Complete and running 250 with Clifford intake, split exhaust, Holley 2 barrel and HEI. For sure the intake, carb and distributor will be used on the 292.

Give Brockman a call and they will suggest muffler length and placement based on the way you want it to sound. Doesn't get any better than that.

Re: The Government Mule - 62 c20 with service bed

I just looked up a couple of videos of folks running the Brockmans. I like the way they sound! I will definitely keep them in mind...and that's cool they can suggest placement for what sound you want.

Re: The Government Mule - 62 c20 with service bed

Picked up the 250 today. 6 hour round trip to go get it but it was worth the ride. Wife is out of town with the baby so perfect time to make a parts run with the dog. Got it from a really nice guy that was swapping to a 6.0 LQ4 and pulled this from his 52 Chevy car. Looks like the carb is a fairly new Holley 350 cfm 2 barrel. Motor came with the power steering pump and bracket which should offset some of the cost, and some biscuit style motor mounts which I'm hoping might be useful for me. He also gave me some paperwork from a machine shop that worked on the head and he said that not too many miles have been put on it since the work was done. Looking forward to cleaning up the intake and getting it on the 292 after I get it back next weekend.

Thought this was cool. Factory chrome Chevrolet script valve cover on the 250. I'm not a big chrome fan, but this is a pretty nice piece.

Nice 250! Those covers didn't come from the factory chromed, but you can get repops in chrome. Looks good! Now all you need is the 4 barrel clifford adapter! lol

I thought it was aftermarket at first too, but I never found any that had the Chevrolet script on them. Did some asking around and a guy from another forum I'm on gave me the info below and a few others confirmed as well.

"The factory chrome valve cover was used in 1964 on all Chevy car models to introduce and showcase the new 230. The package also included chrome air cleaner lid and chrome fuel and vacuum lines. There may have been more..."

I stand corrected then! I guess it's like the 351 V6, on the show room many of the valve covers were chromed.

Re: The Government Mule - 62 c20 with service bed

Went home last weekend and picked up my 292 and a rear axle my brother had. Went out today to better inspect the 292 and noticed what looked like rtv in the rear corner above the oil pan. Started scratching it off and uncovered this.....

Re: The Government Mule - 62 c20 with service bed

Picked up a T5 the other day. Figured it was worth a shot for $80. Didn't have a tag on the case, but looking at the numbers on the main case says its a WC trans and it has the 26 spline input shaft. Gears look to be in great shape. Has the angled bellhousing on it which is a little goofy, but if there's no issues running it angled then I might use it as it is already setup for a hydraulic clutch. Also contemplating fabricating some sort of shifter relocator if I can't find a deal on an s10 tailhousing. We'll see.

Re: The Government Mule - 62 c20 with service bed

Went to the Charlotte Auto Fair a few weeks ago and had my T5 up under my brothers truck when an older gentleman stopped by to ask me if it was for sale. I told him it wasn't and he said he had probably done over 200 T5's through the years. I proceeded to picked his brain for a few minutes and then he handed me his card...it said Langdons Stovebolt on it. It was Tom Langdon himself! I thought that was pretty cool!

I did wind up selling the Camaro T5 in Charlotte and picked up an s10 T5 while I was there. The camaro trans needed some work and I really wanted the s10 shifter location. I ordered a spacer plate last week and an 11" Astro van clutch so I am slowly moving forward on this thing. I quickly mocked it all up today just to give myself some motivation. Hopefully I can set it in the truck next week and begin to work out my motor mounts.

Re: The Government Mule - 62 c20 with service bed

Wife went out of town Tuesday night so when the baby was sleeping/napping I managed to get the front clip off. For as rough as this truck looks I only had one bolt out of all that I removed give me any trouble. I was shocked.

Managed to run over the rake while I was huffing and puffing trying to push it out of the garage. Thankfully I did have one spare that would fit this truck.

Re: The Government Mule - 62 c20 with service bed

Stuck the 250/t5 between the frame rails to get an idea of what I need to do next....and to also get it out of the garage floor so my wife can park her car in it again.

Leaning heavily towards a 73-88 crossmember swap right now.

Looks like it belongs in there.

I've also been thinking about doing the later model front end swap on my boy's '64. Haven't looked into it too much but from what I've seen it seems fairly simple.
