1968 dually idea?

I've been wanting a 3/4 ton or a one ton to haul my trailer around. my problem is there aren't to many of these body style duallies around here (trust me I've looked) so I was thinking of combining two of my parts trucks to make a dually. I have a 68 c10 that I would use for the cab and front end and I also have a 1983 single cab 1 ton dually that I would use for the frame. my question is has anybody put a 67-72 cab on a 73-87 frame? is it even possible without a ton of fabrication?

You need to do like 72freak did to his. Get a '67-'72 133" wheelbase cab & chassis and put a Longhorn bed on it... Killer. Still my most favoritest dually. Here is a link to his.

I think the later frame is quite a bit of work.

I started to put o 69 on a 74 chassis and gave up because it is a lot of work. the frame turns up to quickly and your cab will end up looking like it has a 3 or 4 inch lift on it or you have to cut the back of the cab open to clear it. not fun

I would just keep looking for an original truck. Even if you have to look a little further out. I find the pickings to be pretty good in general.

ok thanks guys, maybe I'll keep looking around. what about just using the front crossmember and rear end? would that be easier? all I would worry about is the 68 c-10 frame being weak, but maybe I could strengthen it up some?

Anything is possible, but too much work in my opinion. The 1-Ton Frame is a lot stronger and pretty much different.

If you're talking about just swapping the cab and not making a dually pickup,then it's easy and a great idea.The only problem with the frame raising up more under the bed is the bed goes down tight to the frame and the cab needs to be spaced up a couple inches to match. If doing a cab & chassis none of that matters. The only post-72 frame/pre-73 body swaps I've seen are those creating a 4wd pickup on the later frame. So,lifting the cab doesn't matter as much since 4wds sit at all kinds of different heights. With 2wd you don't want a spaced off the frame body. With a cab & chassis the only thing you have to deal with is the core support sits back from where the post-72 mounts are. You either move the mounts or drill new mounting points and devise a proper bushing.

thanks that thing is an awesome truck mine is a 133" wheel base so from what I gather its the same as a camper special I thought mine was a hack job since I hadnt seen a dually rear that was so narrow sorry didnt mean to try to high jack the thread

I've always loved that truck too! I like how the tires are almost clear under it! I have my Longhorn bed sitting on a 47 dodge drw right now and I can't get the idea out of my head to do it to mine now.
