Bumper Removal
Finally getting around to the major disassembly of my '67 after piddling around with it since March. Taking it down to the frame to start completely fresh, but it appears that my first great empasse is the front bumper.
It seems as if the carriage bolts have all been "turned" inside of the square cutouts and that any attempt to loosen them just spins them. I've considered grinding the heads off, but I'm always reluctant to destroy hardware and I'm concerned that I might damage my bumper, which I think may be salvageable for the most part. Does anyone have any tips for getting the bumper off? |

Remove the front bumper with the brackets attached. In other words remove the bolts from under the frame. It's easiest to get to and the bumper comes off complete. You can cut the damaged ones with a cutoff wheel from the backside of the bumper after you get it off.
I got my replacement bolts from a local hardware store. Looked pretty much the same but weren't chromed. You can buy chromed ones from internet sites.

if it is a painted bumper u can put a few weld tacs to keep them from turning good luck

Go to Harbor Frieght and buy a cheap nut spliter or even a auto supply
