etch primer over primer surfacer?

what will happen if etching primer is sprayed over a high build surfacer when spraying bare metal spots? not completely coating it just overspray i guess is what i'm asking. the etch is ppg dpx171 non chrome self etching primer .

It won't hurt it. I have the same issues with my truck. I'll block sand the primer and etching primer untill I hit bare metal in spots. I'll then go over the bare spots with etching primer before the high build primer.

That product is excellent. I highly recommend it. You do have to go back over it wet on wet though with what ever type of primer you are using. You are not to leave it uncoated.
