Thats sweet man! Yeah as far as I know the camaro tach should still work for your 6 banger. Search for the Tach swap thread it should tell you.

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)

yeah seems it will work, normally id not throw a fit so much about the tach but the motor redlines at 5000rpm and its got 4.56gears out rear and according to my math that means im running 3100-3300rpm at 55mph well over half throttle and probably not good for the motor over extended periods of time.

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)

yeah when its off it shoots all the way to past full, once or twice past empty lol, yeah it sounds like it will sometimes blowup, which is why im planning on rebuilding the motor with a upgraded intake, with a 500cfm demon 2bbl carb, headers, and a clifford cam, 1.94intake/1.5exh valves and the head shaved .060 and pistons bored .060 over should yield 9.5:1 comp. the new motor will have a 6000rpm redline not a 5000rpm red line yeah!! speed thiscombo according to people ive talked to will yield 260-280hp and 370-390lbs/tq

You already have a rev limiter? I think that would be a sweet rig. Not very often do you see a high horse straight 6.

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)

yeah took one off my dads old rigs i have it set at 4500rpm not the suggested 5000rpm max longevity in mind lol, yeah the performance 6cyl idea i think was way better then the usual sbc or bbc swap, which i love dont get me wrong ive had 4 sbc and a 650hp 496ci bbc that id built my self for my 77 impala, ive always loved the inline 6's had a 1980 c10 with a 250i6 with th350 had that cammed out to 240hp it would fly off the line and hold even with my buddys 2005 f150 with the 5.4 till 45-50mph then the v8 pulled ahead,, the trick is to beat him in corners or pick short roads

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)

As much as I love bored out small blocks or bigblocks I think its cooler to have a quick little 6 banger or even a 307. Everyone can make big numbers out of a big block chevy or make a quick revving small block but it takes real ambition to build a i6.

Well currently the imcome has gone downhill lol so right now just drive it. I plan on fixing the cab and putting the interior together and paint it a solid color. Or getting me a half ton. Im pretty much on the fence.

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)

rebuilt my carburetor last night it was running way too lean, stumbled hard and was getting worse turns out someone had rebuilt it before and used silicone to seal the gaskets it had got into everything jets holes and the acc. pump, float was low too and the carb is for a 77 or later motor not a 72 so lean running anyways. went to replace exhaust flange gasket but both studs broke off in manifold so drilled them out tonite and retapped, gonna put the new studs in tomm and FINALLY get the gasket in, btw open exh. manifold 292i6 sounds badass!!! if your tight on money if u got a dremel tool u can get some grinder heads and do some porting your self on the heads, its slower then normal but if u read up on it and get it close it has same effect my dad did it to my 86' chevy. cheap way to increasehp, just be careful u dont break any bolts off!! (i know it sucks)

She's runnin as good as I could ask from an old truck. The motor is strong but weak if that makes sense lol. I think the bottom end is getting weak.

Let's hear a little about your truck.

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)

luckily small blocks are cheap to rebuild lol, ihave to say that its going to be a long winter if my truck keeps freezing to the point it wont start, ive nearlykilled the battery 4 times, i think its the starter not the motor, because i can grab the pulley to the crank and crank the motor so i know its not stuck, so maybe...the starters freeezing? anyone had this happen? keep in mind its been around 20* when doing this so may not be much i can do
