Question 700r or what is in my truck?

I just bought my 62 short fleetside last week it has a 454 automatic, bought from guy that bought a package of old cars he did not know much but new it was a good running 454 with a700R overdrive trans. I got it running and he was right about it benig a good running 454 ( it is sweet) I don't know how to tell what trans is in it. It has no TV cable. only driven around the block a couple of times (not tagged yet) seems to work OK did not go far enough to shift through gears but would like to know what is in it.
Tell me what to look for to tell what it is.

Re: 700r or what is in my truck?

if it is a 700r4 i wouldnt be driving it "AT ALL" with out a tv cable or a tv cable not adjusted properly quick way to burn it up fast!

my buddy sold me my old 65 that he just drove around the block with the tv cable not adjusted right and my first job getting the truck was swapping the trans..

scroll down on this link im posting and youll see the diffrent "gm" trans pans , and you can tell which one you have:

Re: 700r or what is in my truck?

Yeah, I agree, it's likely a TH400. Having swapped in a 700R4 before, like said above, if the TV cable is not set 100% correctly, the trans will be lucky to make it a 100 miles at best.
