Air Bag Lit

So, as of this AM, the Air Bag light stays on in my wife's 2001 Tahoe.

The manual just tells me (to paraphrase): go to the dealer and spend money.

If there anyway to find out what the problem is with following the manual? am I looking at a potential random deployment or just a chance it won't deploy in a collision?

It will store a code. Random deployment is very rare and almost impossible. Front impact sensors and clocksprings are common. You need to get someone that can pull codes.

Many auto parts stores lend code readers to determine what is wrong, and then you can decide if you can fix it.

Most code readers will just read PCM codes. You'll need to find one that can communicate with the airbag system.

Re: Air Bag Lit

OK, thanks, guys.

The light has since gone out, so I will monitor it closely.

Re: Air Bag Lit

You can still get the code from memory, as long as the battery hasn't gone dead or been disconnected. If you have access to a buddy who can maybe pull SRS codes it would sweet to know what is going on. Like states front impact sensors and clock springs are common, more often I've seen the impact sensors.

Re: Air Bag Lit

Check your fuses, also look at the rear view mirror it it not lit? then you have a fuse blown and that would make the SRS light stay on also plugs can loosen although rare I have had it happen.
