Photo resizing / Moderators please place in correct area

There are a lot of you having trouble loading photos onto the site. I will share with you how I do this and hope it helps you.

These instructions are for Windows 7 but should work on others

Once you have your photo selected, right click on it and select "open with"
At this time select "paint" and your photo will appear with a tool bar above it. This is the "paint" tool bar. In the tool bar you will see "resize"
Select "resize" and a small window will open and offer the option of percent or pixels, select "pixels and manually enter 450 and select save.

You photo is now resized and should upload without fail.

Please ask questions if you have further problems.
Thank you

Good suggestion.

Alternatively, one could host their images on another site like Flickr and embed the link in their post. A little more work but you wouldn't be limited to file size or dimensions. I know we all love to see big purty pictures of all these trucks.

Now for us Mac/Apple guys:

open the picture,

click on "tools"
select "adjust size"

click on the top box "fit into"
and select 320 x 240 or 640 x 480 (you decide which one you want)

then select "OK"
and then select "file"
and select "save as" and change to a new name so you don't overwrite the original

Hey Tbone. I wasn't saying that there is a problem with your instructions I just know that the old image size (prior to the server upgrade) allowed was a bit larger and some folks thought that that was still too small. I just mentioned it in case anyone wants to see or post larger images. Didn't mean to hijack.

No problem at all Chris. I am all for anything that helped someone no matter how you get there. I appreciate your input. I just wanted to show an example of what you would get with a 500 x 375 photo size. I think somethings get lost in translation but it is all good sir.

Hi Jacking my thread is allowed if it helps us all gain knowledge

Re: Photo resizing / Moderators please place in correct area

Does anyone know what the new size limit is? All I know is that my photo right of my camera is 2999 x 2999 pixels and it will not upload anymore like it use too and I think it is what is causing a lot of grief recently.

Re: Photo resizing / Moderators please place in correct area

I don't known what size I upload. I take pix with my 8mpx iPhone and post them up. iPhone and iPads have no options to adjust image size. Why can't the forum automatically resize the images to a max of 1024x768 or something during upload? Other sites do that, but I guess it depends on the php software being used on the board.

Whoop! Now that's what I'm talking about! What method did you use to get that size?

If you are using Windows 7, do this:

Choose the photo you want to down load. Lets just say for example it is IMG3500.JPG or what ever it is. Copy and paste that image to your desk top. Once it is on your desk top, right click on it. You will then see a drop down and it will have the option "open with" select "open with and then select "paint" at this time a pop up will appear that will give you the option of percent or pixels, select "pixels and then you can manual enter the sizes. When I select pixels with mine it will display 2999 x 2999 until I change it. Sometimes it will change the vertical at the same time you are changing the horizontal. Once you input the size, you select save. Once you save it, you can upload it from your desk top onto your thread.

I am not sure but I think earlier versions of Windows will also have paint and allow the same function just in a different layout.

I hope this makes since.

Here is another way to do the same thing. Personally, I like to right click on the photo and select "open with" but this video shows another way.

I typed the above response on my phone last night. On my phone, that 1000x750 picture looked much larger than your previous (smaller) version. After looking at it this morning, I noticed that your 1000x750 image is actually 642x482 (most likely resized by the forum software). I also went to a thread that I had post pics back in 2012 and noticed that the forum automatically resized the images to a with of 642 pixels (the same as your recently posted 1000x750 image). Maybe things are back to normal.

Interesting, I will try an upload later like I use to and see what happens.

Re: Photo resizing / Moderators please place in correct area

TBone, I'd like to add to this thread how i do it.

On my Samsung Galaxy 3 when i want to load a picture to an email i have the option of loading 100% 50% or 30%, I find its easier to just send an email to myself with the pictures i want to load on this forum set at 30%, then when i'm home on my computer i open each picture then copy and paste them into a windows file set aside for just uploading pic's. When i upload to a post the pic's are nice and large but still fit the sizing pixel requirements. Have a look at my build thread and you will see my results.

I don't know how many other phones have this type of a feature but i figure some of the others got to have it, others not so it may or may not help everyone.

EDIT: I believe i have my camera set on highest definition possible for taking the pic's.
