Advice on a purchase..

Im going to look at this pickup tomorrow, one owner 82 3/4 ton with 101,000 actual miles. Going by the pictures its in pretty good shape, won't know until I see it of course. Said theres minor rust bubbling on passenger side rear quarter above the wheel. Everything is all there still, runs and drives. can be bought for 1500, as he was asking 2,000. Not too familiar with these pickups, i have a 74 that I plan on keeping. This one id like to have and drive for a little while then Id flip it. Is 1,500 a good amount to do that plan? If not whats a good price? Any info is helpful, thanks.

Re: Advice on a purchase..

1500 is a steal of a deal....without looking at it 1st hand I'd say 3500-4000 tops....I gave 3500 for my 81 and it was stored indoors all its life and only had 20200 documented miles on it when I bought it....

$1500 is a deal. I just bought a 87 short box in really rough shape for $1000. That truck is pretty strait and the interior looks pretty good. I'd say you could flip it pretty easy.

Yup, very good deal. My Dad's garage queen 2007 has rust bubbles on the rear quarter too and it gets washed all the time. I put many miles on an 82 C20 and it was a smooth rolling truck.

Re: Advice on a purchase..

Being from the southwest, any vehicle with rust is a no sale. You might have $1500 in salvageable parts. Typically, a vehicle does not rust out in only one spot. Most likely, rocker panels, body mount brackets, etc. will have at least some rust - but you will find out when you see it. Of course, if you are an experienced body man, then it doesn't matter. Proper body work is expensive to buy.

If you check craigslist in southwest cities you will see lots of square bodies for sale. The best ones are pricey, but a lot of them are rust free and worth an investment of more dollars. I always figure that an old vehicle will need a lot of money spent on repairs. A lot of these old trucks have already had a lot of parts replaced and then the owner gave up when a major failure like an engine or transmission happened.

If you plan to flip it with no additional money invested that might work if you are willing to wait for a buyer.
