anyone ever replace their steering shaft vibration dampener?

It looks like a normal 3/4" DD shaft on the steering box side, but what do you see when you get the dampener off? (bottom end in this pic) I'm using a 87 S-10 column and box on my 53 and I think it will be easier to replace the dampener to do some mods, but I want to be sure it doesn't have some goofy GM machining on the end before I tear up my existing dampener which is still in good shape.
Is it just a normal 3/4" DD shaft with a hole for mounting the dampener?
