Tristan, The truck looks fantastic. I noticed on the picture of the doors in the paint booth that the window surrounds were left in ochre. I believe on the deluxe two tone that they are supposed to match the white of the cab. Did your painter paint them white later?

Yikes, thanks for the heads up. I will check as I haven't seen the paint job in person yet.

Sorry, I need to clarify, The window surrounds need to be white on the external side and ochre on the inside of the cab.

Such a good looking color combination. Can't wait to see it finished.

So, Is the Ochre color original to the pickup, or just what you like. I like it. Any color can look great, if all the body work is done properly. I'm waiting for a shot to hopefully buy a 72, same color, it's tied up in an estate proceding for now...

Re: Project Checkbook 2: 1971 SWB BB Cheyenne

Yes, per the SPID the truck was originally white/ochre/white/ochre so it is being restored to its original color combination. It seems to be a love it or hate it kind of color. My old 1971 Jimmy was ochre and I came to love it. Some PO on this one hated it and painted everything black except the SPID.

Beautiful truck, love that you're going back all original. Definitely subscribed to see this one come together. Oh and I'm glad that guy mentioned the white around the door glass, my heart dropped when i saw that lol. A personal pet peeve of mine when people leave the door glass surround body color with a white top. Keep up the great work!

Sweet! Let me know when you get down this way. There is a small but tight knit c10 community in this area, took me a few years to get plugged in but there are some good people around here.

Re: Project Checkbook 2: 1971 SWB BB Cheyenne

Paint work is completed (I hope) and re-assembly is in progress. I haven't seen the finished paint job in person yet and hope to make a visit this week. The upper door sections have been repainted per Fw190d9's catch but I want to make sure that all of the deluxe two-tone cut lines were done right. This is a complex paint job and the invoice that I have in hand reflects lots of extra taping and masking.

Tristan, Glad they got it right. Having done the exact paint job I can attest to the amount of masking involved. Looks great!

Re: Project Checkbook 2: 1971 SWB BB Cheyenne

I had a chance to see the paint job in person today and I am very pleased. I did not pay for show quality prep or paint but think that the job turned out very near to that standard. Both color and clear coats laid down very flat and the shop had relatively little buffing and cutting to do.

Re: Project Checkbook 2: 1971 SWB BB Cheyenne

The shop is working through refinishing engine components such as the alternator, carb, power steering box, etc. Although it was not my original intention to do this, the truck and the 402 block are turning out so good that I want the peripherals to match the truck and engine in quality of appearance. Over the next few weeks we are going to go through the various lenses, chrome and trim pieces to see what can be used as-is, what will need to be refinished and what will need to be replaced. Re-assembly is an exciting and encouraging time after years of mechanical and body work.

Re: Project Checkbook 2: 1971 SWB BB Cheyenne

Thanks for your kind words. It is hard to believe I haven't had anything to update in a year. Work is progressing on the truck but it is the non-photogenic re-assembly of various bits and pieces (exterior trim, door interiors, etc.). The restoration shop has also struggled with re-installing the windshield and rear window. Que sera sera.

It has been awhile but I believe the exhaust system came from Heartthrob Exhaust, maybe via JEGS.

Re: Project Checkbook 2: 1971 SWB BB Cheyenne

Here are a few update pictures after having nothing photogenic to report in over a year. The re-assembly process is time consuming and expensive as it seems that none of the takeoff parts being re-assembled actually worked and had to be replaced. I know,

The truck is actually close to completion with just a couple of punch list items remaining. They managed to get the back window installed but the new windshield and trim has defeated three attempts so far. Another glass guy is going to make attempt #4. All of the interior is installed save for a few bits. Road testing to begin soon.

I'm also having stance problems due to replacing the rear leaf springs. The new ones are making the bed sit up too high. I'm either going to have the springs re-arched or they will lose a leaf on each side to see if that improves matters. While I would love to have a 4X4 this truck isn't one.

Re: Project Checkbook 2: 1971 SWB BB Cheyenne

This was a pleasant surprise in my inbox. Looks fantastic! Love the saddle.

So close. I completely sympathize with the glass guys. Most defeated I think I've ever felt was trying to install windshield + trim. Pretty sure we got it on the third try...but I could be blocking out some trauma.

Can't wait for finals!

Re: Project Checkbook 2: 1971 SWB BB Cheyenne

Long time, no posts from me. The reassembly of the truck seemed to take forever but it is now completed. I thought that I would close out this thread by posting up some pictures of the finished product.

Like Project Checkbook 1, this one is also headed for Mecum soon. I wish I could keep it but right now I have too many other life priorities.

I am immensely grateful for the assistance provided by this forum during the restoration, whether it came in the form of encouragement, advice, parts or whatever. I am proud of how both of my trucks turned out.
