Re: 72 Suburban Started

Had to work today at the fire station today but it gives me time to search the internet for parts. I have been on LMC and Brothers are there any other site I need to look. Trying to locate the patch panel I need for the passengers. Looks like I need the front floor pan, inside kick panel, front complete cab support, inside rocker and rocker panel plus the lower pillar.. Anything left?

Re: 72 Suburban Started

Well I made my mind up and I will be installing a 1971 Chevy 350 in the burb, I have the old 305 that came out and a 2006 LS motor but I was saving the LS for another build. The 350 is a complete running motor the started life in a 71 Monte Carlo that Mike Nutt built in the mid 80's it was pulled out to make way for a 396 it was and refreshed and placed into a 78 Malibu the the malibu was wrecked in the mid 90's it was pulled again and placed into another 78/79 Malibu were is sat for over 10 years in the garage untill 2004 and then it was pulled again and it has been in my shop on a motor stand for 8 years. The engine probably has less than 15,000 on it since the refresh in the mid 80,s. Bcubed my be able to help with the history he now has the malibu with the that has a 327 in it now, by the way the 327 was built by him and Mike back in the early 90's and did not have a home untill 2004 when it was placed into the malibu...

Re: 72 Suburban Started

Came home today and decided to remove the transmission from the old 305 only to see that someone jackassed the housing with JB WELD where the coolant lines are connected. So I will be locating a new trans or finding a good housing and rebuilding the old one.

I saw where someone used 8" and then stretched it out to 9" .. if you do that you might also want to consider Slam Specialties RE-7 bags ... when I went from Firestone to Slam bags I got alot more lift at the same PSI.

Does anyone just sell the upper plates? I know Suicide Doors sells the whole kit, but if he were to cup his lower arms and by different bags, would only really need the upper plates.

Well I need to decide on an engine to run. I have a good 350 that Bcubed has made available but I will need to find a 350/400 turbo transmission or install a 2006 LQ4 I have but it will need a Painless 60221 Gen III Truck Harness about $1000.00 ( input needed)

Re: 72 Suburban Started

By the way the A-Arm shaft was a pain to get the caps off I only hope the bottom A-Arms are not as bad, I had to put a cheater bar on my wrench and still it took all of my weight to remove it.

Since the intention is to tow his 68 Camaro with the Suburban, will probably do Bag over Axle, or put the Bag right in front of the Axle instead of putting them on the arms. Step notch with bridge bars to mount the bags and shocks.

Re: 72 Suburban Started

After a lond day we were able to fit the rear panel, the inter structure was completely rusted out so I had to fab all of it with 16 ga steel 1st before I could fit the panel. It not great but all of the rust is gone and I am not too bad at blocking and filling. Bcubed will be posting some pic's of our progress.

I would like to set low but like Bcubed stated I am trying to tow my car. The tongue weight is about 600 pounds and tow weight is about 4,500.

Re: 72 Suburban Started

As bud1300 said, today the task was to weld in the new lower quarter. Here are the tools for the day. Had to rebuild the inner structure. The panel was test fitted many times during the day until it was tacked in. The welds were filled in and dressed and some primer shot to protect it till its time to do final bodywork. Afterwards cleaned up the tools and rearranged the garage.
