72 K20 is it to much work? what do you think

I found a local K20 LWB 350,350 auto the cab is about shot with daylight showing above windshield and back window, front clip not to bad hood and grill ok, bed sides fair ,front of bed gone, guy says it runs has 86 engine dana rear don't know ratio.
What I want to know is it worth all the trouble or should I keep looking? oh I've got him down to $575.

It would be worth it for the parts if you had a better one also. Sounds like a total cab replacement or restoration would be necessary. Thats a vin tag legallity issue and its quite a bit of work to do also. It aint bad reallthough. The chassis worth that more than likely.

I'd go for it. I wish I could buy a truck for that; it wouldn't even have to have any good sheetmetal. Find you a nice donor truck and go to town.

Save your self!! It is not worth it if you plan to restore. It would cost you ten times the amount to fix that truck as it would to pay to have a nice one shipped from out west. It is a parts truck. That is all. I have this problem where I think I can restore these rusty old trucks, it is NOT worth the work involved. These trucks are not rare, or hard to come by anywhere west of the Mississippi. They are nearly a dime a dozen. You can take a bus out, or train, or whatever and drive back a solid but need restore truck for way way way less than it would even cost to fix the cab.

Yea I know its a big project but the parts would be worth it if I can find a place to stash the truck maybe I can get him down a little more on the price tomorow thanks for the input

Those trucks are pretty rare here in CA. I saw a 72 K20 for sale a few days ago, and it was in ok shape (no rust) but it needed the whole right side of the body, the grill and the bumper replaced. It was certanly restoreable, but they wanted $4500 for it.

It is pretty good mechanically, i would buy it. I live in Missouri, and it is pretty hard to find a 67-72 K10, a K20 is pretty rare. $575 ain't too bad for a rusty truck, especially if it runs. Or you could not bother fixing the body, put your money into the drivetrain and make one heck of a beater to take off road......
Instead of swapping VIN plates on the cab, use another cab with a title, drop it on the K20 frame, and title it as whatever the cab is. That might be legal??

i've got a real nice driver 3/4 ton 4x4 with a lot of new parts i will sell for 9000 if anyone is interested. it's got new paint, upholstry, bumpers, engine, trans, suspension, rims, tires, steering, etc, etc.
p-s,p-b,tach,toolbox bed,custom/20, it's a really sweet truck but i've got another "project" 72 3/4 ton 4x4 to do plus my "daily driver".
by the way, the truck i'm selling started out as a $650 beater and the only sheetmetal i replaced was the bed and tailgate. i did most of the labor work myself and i've got almost 10 grand in it.

rust is bad? i thought rust was an option on my truck? for all who say it is too much work, i have one thing to say, what would i do if i couldnt work on my truck? right now i have less then $3000 in my truck, including the purchase price, motor, llift and all, and i would say i am only about 600$ away from it being done. granted, these prices included the fact that almost every time i buy a bunch of parts i sell what i dont need and amke money back, and the fact that i have done EVERYTHING my self, if i were you i would jump on it, if not ill buy it for the tranny and tcase.

kman, If you don't want the truck let me know.

I'm in Tampa and have a brother with a 70 K10 that he just put a 8 lug Dana in the back and is looking for a 3/4 ton front end. I also need some front fenders and a tailgate for my truck.

Let me know

There is one in a car lot here in Bradenton in decent shape, I don't remember if it's k-10 or 20 but I think it can be had for a grand, their asking 1500.00. I have no use for another 4x4 so if anybody is interested? e-mail me and i'll hook you up.

UP DATE

I just bought the truck K20 without the engine for $250 cab is really rusted but frame and running gear looks solid th350 leaks so to start I'll need to finish putting the 350 engine I have in my shop together and rebuild the leaky tranny and then start to look for lots of body parts

unrestored 72 K20 rust project (need almost everything)
