Re: update: sandblasted cab

The first time I did my frame I just degreesed, wirebrushed it and hated the my it looked. So I had mine blasted and powder coated. You will be happy with the way it turns out..... I saw your previous post. I liked the way you hauled the frame. I put mine over the top of the cab, left the tail gate closed, which stopped the frame from sliding backwards. I would not recomend this for long trips.

Re: update: sandblasted cab

68 short step, did you sandblast your rear axel/differential and then paint it black or powdercoat? I am about to sandblast and powdercoat my frame and i was wondering if the rear axel can be blasted and powdercoated? I ask because i am not sure exactly what the difference is between powdercoating and painting... thanks for the help. good looking frame by the way.

Re: update: sandblasted cab

yes i had the rear axle sandblasted, then i primed/ paint. powdercoating is simular to painting except its painting fine powder on the part then bonding the powder to the part by bakeing it. powdercoating will be easier and less prep work, after its been blasted, althogh i painted mine to give it more of a glossy finish. (dont get me wrong PC will have a nice finish too , but not as glossy as paint/ clear)

Actually, powdercoat can have a HIGHER gloss content then paint. You can also do clear powdercoat on top.

By baking it on, you can add more gloss.

When you paint, you have to wait for the solvent to cure out in a much longer process, which translates into less gloss.

Re: update: sandblasted cab

You can actually get powder coat with a mirror finish. go to www.columbiacoatings.com and check any of the super mirror finishes.

Your frame is sweet btw.

Re: update: sandblasted cab

Those look good, one question? How much to have a frame sand blasted and powder coated professionally? Just looking for an average
