Anyone running 17x8 front 17x9.5 rear?

Hi All,

I just picked up a 67' C15 yesterday and it came with TT2 17x8 and 17x9.5. Right now the tire sizes are 235/60 fronts and 265/65 rears. I really don't like the big and little look. I want to have a more even stance.

I don't necessarily hate the wheels, but if I can't find tires that will work with these and give the truck a more even look, then I'll probably run different wheels.

I was thinking of mounting 255/50 in the font and 275/50 in the rear. What do you guys think? Anyone have this set-up on their 67-72 that can share pics?

Thanks for any and all help.

Cort

Goes to show you that personal opinion is important. I have 17x8 front and 17x9 rear with 235 55 17 and 275 55 17 and absolutely love the look. It is exactly what I was looking for.

Be careful going wider in the front as that's what causes interference on the inner fender and the inner fender bolts at the top of the wheel arch. FWIW, I think truck looks good.

They were the Summit Legend wheels which I think are made by Vision when I bought them. I think just listed as Vision Legend wheels now.

17X8 all around. I don't remember the tire stagger.

I think your truck looks fantastic Mike! Maybe I just need to reduce the sidewall height in the back from 65 to 55 to get the look I want.

Noted about going wider in front. I'll keep the 235's then and maybe do the 275/55 in the rear like yours. Much better looking than what I have in my opinion.

Re: Anyone running 17x8 front 17x9.5 rear?

Thank you.

What is the offset on your front wheels? If it is 5" then maybe a 245 or even the 255 would move the front out a little making it look a little less tucked.

I have zero offset wheels on both ends. Thats 17x8 4.5" bs front and 17x9 5" bs rear.

I'm not sure. I'll have to measure it.

What brand are your tires Mike? I can't seem to find the two different sizes made by the same manufacturer....

Re: Anyone running 17x8 front 17x9.5 rear?

They are Hankooks. And they don't make that front tire anymore. When I get new tires I will have to make a decision on what I want to run. I think a 245 will be no problem. I have a few more years left and then will have to get serious. I was highly irritated when I found out that is not a combo I can run again.

Looks like they don't make any other sizes anymore. Tire Rack makes it easy to find all sizes within a model. Click on the model tire you are looking at, go down to "sizes" to see what is available. Click on "specs" and gives you rollout, OD, width, etc.

Re: Anyone running 17x8 front 17x9.5 rear?

Well I was hoping to run 235/60 fronts and 275/55 rears to get a more even look, but no manufacturer makes both...bummer. I can't find any manufacturer with a 275 tire that would also make the front size.

The only tire sizes I can find by the same manufacturer are: 235/60 front and 255/60 rear; made by Hankook. I wonder what the 255 would look like on the 9.5" wide wheel?

Re: Anyone running 17x8 front 17x9.5 rear?

It's a little narrow for a rim that wide I think. The 275 is max on a stepside truck (maybe 285) but with your fleetside you could run a wider tire still in the rear. That makes the big-n-little thing even more which I know was not what you were looking for.

IMO, too wide a tire in the front is what takes away from the overall look of these trucks and trying to fill up both wheelwells is a challenge with tires available.

REALLY irritating they quit making the combo that I decided on.

For sure. Well, I'll try a couple more combos before I give up and see if someone makes a 285/235 combo.

Thanks for the input Mike.

OK, Kumho makes a 235/60 and 265/60 combo. The 265 will sit about 1.4" taller than the 235, which is better than the current 2" taller that I have now. This will have to do!

Re: Anyone running 17x8 front 17x9.5 rear?

I too do not like the big and little stagger either and plan to drop my truck with a 2 1/2 inch spindle up front and 4 inch spring in rear. I have a set of 17 x 8's, pictured , I'll be using after the drop and plan to use a set of 255/60 17's on the truck. The 255 60's are just over 29 inches tall which will work well with your 17 x 8 and 17.9 inch rims. Tires all the same height with the rears popped out a touch more I think would look great.

Sorry to be late to the post but do you have spacers on the rear, if so how wide. I have the TT 2 on the front and am ready to order the rear and was thinking about the 17x9.5 for the rear.

Re: Anyone running 17x8 front 17x9.5 rear?

anyone know if you can run 17x9.5 all around to be able to run 275/55/17 all around? I don't want 17x8 front and stretch 275s. That's what I run 275 on 8in but want the proper width
