Question Wire Diagram for 01' 5.3 Vortec engine swap

Hello, Just asking if anyone Has ever built/reworked there own engine wire harness for the LS 5.3 vortec? Id like to try this myself, I have the stock harness and ECM. I will be using a After market chassis harness. The engine is in my 89' S-10 blazer. Current performance might be the one to do this for me, but I would rather save the money and do this at home.

I will still need the ECM burned and programed. If anyone has a over view diagram that shows the color of the needed wires for the engine functions and controls. I can take from there! I have done some marine wiring in the past, and feel I can tackle this!

Any help with this would be great!

Thank you guys!

If you look through the link I provided he actually has a page showing what wires need to be fed with a fuse/relay, which are not needed to run with pictures and everything. Spend some time clicking all his various links

Thumbs up Re: Wire Diagram for 01' 5.3 Vortec engine swap

Started On the harness. Have everything except the relay and fuse box finished. Im gonna cheat and buy the relay box from Current Performance. Help speed things up! Thanks again for the info guys, started out good and wasn't as serious as I thought. Lots of reading and testing with the volt meter. Should have it done this week.

I forgot to tell you what my harness looked like when I bought this engine. The Jackass at the pick and pull cut the under hood relay and fuse pin connector under the hood. So no reference to go at, just had to beep test all the pink wires and label the injectors! LOL! I might just start doing harnesses after this little adventure, that's if things work!!

Hey Justin,

Would you consider doing a write-up or FAQ or was the info from LT1swaps sufficient?

If I still feel retarded then maybe I am and I could be your 1st customer?

LOL! Im still getting mine reloomed. When I have everything done and tested, Hell ya for sure start a thread!

Just changed the injectors to LS1 style, and traced all the grounds and other uneeded wires. The LT1 site helped alot. Pictures helped, but the amp meter was the saving grace. Id be glad to help you when Im finished.

The hard part is next, the lay out for the engine. The truck intake is taller, so the ls1 is short. Just got damm cold here this week. I don't have a heated shop. Maybe if my relay box shows up, Ill have it hooked up on the block and then shorten or lenghten my wires. The Vortec harness was a Rats nest from hell! But fo the most part, Im heading in the right direction!

Keep ya posted!

Re: Wire Diagram for 01' 5.3 Vortec engine swap

Sorry I do not. There are many that do from about$150-300+ and some lock their tune so nobody but them can change it.

The software from what I have seen is pretty expensive $500+ and there is a learning curve for using it. I am going in so many directions with my swap I am paying someone to do my harness and tune. If I do another I will do my own harness. I will probably always have someone else do the tune unless I find a great deal on the software.

Re: Wire Diagram for 01' 5.3 Vortec engine swap

Thats true. I have tuned stanalone units ie haltech. motec. but never realy messed with stock ecu's. I would like to play with the software a bit to see what can be done.
