1970 AC question

I'm getting ready to paint and reupholster my 1970 Burb. It has a fairly decent roof (ceiling?) mount full length AC unit that doesn't work at the moment, but I think it's repairable and usable. I have a couple questions: Should I go to the trouble of restoring it or just go with a Vintage Aire type under dash unit with front vents? What have you guys done? Will the front only vents cool that big cabin? Will a restored original roof unit cool better? Also-anyone know how to get the darn thing off the ceiling? I can't see any obvious attaching hardware?? As always-Thanks in advance

Re: 1970 AC question

I recently got mine fully working: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=631112

I find it works ok since it blows on your head. But, the heat from the engine has a slight edge towards the feet. I think a front AC addition would be great. Others have done it and have posted here, so search away. Currently, I'm leaning towards the Old Air Products, but other things are taking priority.

Re: 1970 AC question

I realzed I didn't help with your question about taking that thing off the ceiling.

For the long trough, you have to squeeze the sides. Be careful though, it's all fragile.

For the part that encloses the evap & motors, I didn't remove mine. But, there are screws that hold it to metal rails on the ceiling. Also, it has a tab on each side near the trough that holds the fwd end up. I think there are visible rivets. You have to push towards the rear to release them. I couldn't figure out how to remove that big piece completely, but I didn't need or want to.
