700r4 lockup wiring

Does anyone have any suggestions for what brand and type of lockup wiring to get for my transmission? I know there are lockup kits that rewire the inside of the tranny, and there are those that connect from the outside connector. I know the brands like TCI, Bowtie overdrives, Lokar, and B&M all have different types of wiring to lock up the converter, and when, and how it locks up.

Currently this is the inside of it, and it has a broken wire jacket. I don't know if this is fixable because of the tranny fluid or not. I know that i can solder the wire together if it's broken, for strength, then put some heat shrink tubing over it to protect it. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Of course all of the ones you named in the post are reputable copanies, I like the products from both TCI and B&M they have always done what they were supposed to do when needed. Are'nt they mostly based off of a vaccum switch and a brake switch?

I used the Bowtie Overdrives kit on my 2004R. Pretty straight forward and works well.

This is what I did, and it uses all GM equipment.

Re: 700r4 lockup wiring

You want a kit that has a brake switch that UNLOCKS the TC when you hit the brakes. I did not have one of these and almost wrecked my truck when it stalled when a b-hole pulled out in front of me. The BTO kit has the brake switch, it just taps into your existing brake wire under the dash.

Cool Re: 700r4 lockup wiring

I have the B&M shifter kit. I have no brake switch wiring and never had any issues. I also have it where I can lock it are unlock it with a toggle switch. Tow mode if you will.
The B&M kit is for 45MPH lock up in overdrive only so if you drop below 45MPH it will drop out and so far 15 years I have never had any problems. I can back up and easy around in 35 MPH speeds with no problems.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: 700r4 lockup wiring

Excuse me for asking a few related questions here. I don't want to hijack the thread by any means.

My 700R4 is supposed to have the ability to lock the converter in 4th. I was told it was wired for it from the shop that built the tranny. I haven't wired any electrical to it though. So here are the questions

any benefit to locking or leaving unlocked?
will it just require 12 volts to the external connector to lock it?
How can I test the lock?
will feeding it too much power while locked kill the converter?
How much current should the lock use?
should I keep it "unlocked" while taking off or accelerating hard?

Thanks in advance and sorry for stealing.

Re: 700r4 lockup wiring

Find a 1985 or 86 Gm pick- up,blazer or suburban and remove the vacuum switch and bracket from the firewall, near the brake booster;the brake switch and bracket under the dash and the harness that connects the two switches to the side of the trans. This all usually costs less than $10.00, is the correct parts, is super simple and only needs one fused switched feed. I did it on my 68, works great, only paid $5.00!

Re: 700r4 lockup wiring

no need to change the shifter and for the brake switch get one for a late 80s truck and it will have the extra conections that are needed

Re: 700r4 lockup wiring

Same shifter if stock column shifter. Aftermarket floor shifters will sometimes have a replaceable gate with 4 forward gears instead of 3
