Truck parts sold on EBAY

Just saw an article saying IRS will NOT collect taxes for 2023 on sales that go through EBAY, PayPal, etc.

I don't trust them. They'll change at the last minute and hit you with fines for not reporting

Awe common now... we all love to pay taxes, knowing they won't squander one red cent!

Re: Truck parts sold on EBAY

Here’s my question for when this actually kicks in…

Let’s say a guy buys old chevy truck parts for 40 years (possibly applies to some of us haha).

It’s a hobby, so he doesn’t save receipts.

He decides to clean up the barn and sells it all online.

Nets $20k.

He now owes taxes as if he is a business, and he had no way of proving otherwise.

What am I missing?

Re: Truck parts sold on EBAY

bowtie ( what am I missing ) I wouldn't be surprised 10 grand or close. Between me and my wife together we paid high taxes. I guess we should feel good though, we got two grand back in our returns, peanuts. I'd feel better if they gave me a list to pick what I want my taxes to pay for. They want to make it easier and safer with no more paper money, we all have plastic cards for all our buying and spending, it makes it so much easier to record what taxes should be paid, for by buyer and seller after you have a yard sale or anything like that. Maybe the old fashion American Indian trade way can work out better. ✌
