Tail light problem

I have a question for the masses ? Installed my new tail lights thinking that it’d fix the problem of my passenger side brake light not coming on when I press the pedal but it didn’t. Everything else works on the truck like the signals and the running lights and such except the passenger brake light . Thank you in advanced

Re: Tail light problem

That is odd because I think there are only 2 wires going to each taillight. the turn signal and brake light run on the same wire.(yellow or dark green)Tail lights would be brown. If you turn the lights on and put on the emergency flashers, are the left and right lights all the same brightness?

Re: Tail light problem

The brake light power circuit goes through the turn signal switch so that they keep flashing when when you put on the brakes. Needs to be pintested down on the connector where it easier to get to.

Re: Tail light problem

Another thing too is I have to press up on the switch firmly when I want my right turn signal to work , the grounds looks good I cleaned them up with some steel wool I was wondering if I can splice some extra wire onto the ground on on the light and run it to the housing a bit better.

Yes there is two wires I heard that the actual light grounds to the bucket. But the turn signal works fine both directions and the driver brake light works

I’ll probably have to shoot the wire at the bottom of the connector like you said I believe it’s the dark green wire that goes to the passenger side ?

Re: Tail light problem

It could very well be that you have a problem in the turn signal. If you have to push hard to get the right signal to work, that indicates an issue there. It could be that the interrupt circuit is causing problems with the right brake light.

If the right signal works, it isn't the wiring in the rear. The problem is either in your signal switch or the wiring harness under the dash.

Ok . I’ll disconnect the wiring harness and shoot around I believe it’s still the green wire out of the bunch correct ?

Re: Tail light problem

I'm going to go with a problem in the turn signal switch.

I feel like replacing it since it doesn’t stay on unless I’m holding it

Re: Tail light problem

clean all contact points (screws that attach housings and so forth) clean all grounds with sandpaper. That will eliminate any ground issues going forward. Your problem is most certainly in the turn signal switch. replace it and clean clean clean everything.

Re: Tail light problem

More than likely it's the turn signal switch.
