Refurbishing a 1970 C30 flat bed stake side. Is there a forum for C30's. Having trouble finding parts, any suggestions.

Welcome to the board!
What kind of parts are you looking for?
Many C20 parts will interchange.

Thanks for the welcome! Have not utilized forums often and I am trying to get aquainted with the best ussage method.

I have the opportunity to purchase the chassis from a 1986 1 ton and ahve been told the rear end along with the frontend cradle with disc brakes will bolt onto my 1970 frame. Any ideas is this will work?

Re: 1970 C30 flat bed delivery

Other than emblems, rear end parts and some of the brake parts you should be able to get just about everything you need as the parts are interchangable with all other 67-72's.

Re: 1970 C30 flat bed delivery

Welcome to the site. Yes,the later a-frame assembly will swap in. The rear can be swapped with a 14-bolt,but the shock locations, and possibly the spring perched, will need relocating. You're in the right forum for 67-72 10-70 series trucks. There are just not as many 30+ trucks being fixed up,I guess.

That is one LONG bed. Very nice looking truck. It will be great to see you bring here back to greatness.

Great to see another 1 ton truck getting fixed up. And a dually to boot!
Best of luck with it and keep the pics coming.

The bed on it is a Ford bed, 12' long. The frame has been extended 2' in front of the axle. The end of the frame has been butchered right up to the rear spring hanger. The previous owner extended the frame with 4" channel iron (solid as a rock) but bolted on. I'll have to do some fabrication to clean thing up and to make it safe. It has a wood bed but I’m leaning on replacing it with metal and placing a wench at the front of the bed. I plan on replacing all the wood on the stake side with new oak. My plans are to add an accordion ramp onto the rear of the bed a so I can load our motorcycle and its trailer onto the bed (hence the wench) and pull a travel trailer. I wanted something pre computer and simple to work on. I’ve always loved the model (they were new when I graduated high school) and I am excited to complete the project.

I took a look at your wrecker, neat project, looks like you have a lot more rust to deal with than I do. It must be the salt that is used during the winter up there.

That's a great project you've got there. Swapping the front suspension will make the truck much nicer to drive with the disc brakes.

By the way, while I support putting a wench on your bed...

You might find a winch more appropriate for dragging the heavy stuff up onto the truck.

Just hacking on you. Welcome to the board from another Texan.

Heck, I think I need to put a wench in my bed too!!!

Congrats on the new project! And welcome from North Texas!

I bet even with that fork lift, it was still a chore removing that flat bed. I noticed you even put a sheet of plywood to protect the rear of the cab.

Good luck!

The interior looks well taken care of for an old work horse like that.

Thanks for pointing that out, my wife would certainly be more receptive to the winch rather than the wench. Checking out your web-page.

Remarkably clean, the odometer shows 17000 miles and the interior lends me to think it was used locally. All I’ve found thus far is surface rust. It doesn’t have air and in Texas that usually leads to the paint on the driver’s side window ledge wearing through and the development of rust where the driver rest his arm. Again, remarkably clean.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm finishing a few other projects before I dive into this one. Hopefully I'll dive in this coming month. I have a 1936 chassis that I'm robbing the differential and front end off of to update the "70".
