Talk to me about power vs. manual racks

I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to get the power rack over the manual rack that the Mustang II font ends seem to come with. I know that if you're using a Chevy pump, you've got to reduce the pressure for the Ford rack. Is it worth it? What kind of steering difference do you see between the two? I'm building this truck so that both my wife and I can drive it. She's not very big, so I don't want something that's too difficult to steer.

I have the manual rack on the truck with the small block and I am using a power rack on the one with the big block. The truck with the manual rack works real good and I only went with the manual because with a blower I didn't want the extra component hanging from the front of the motor. However, if I was going to be using it as a daily driver, I probably would have gone with the power rack even on the small block. The manual rack steers very easy and I think the only time it might be difficult for your wife would be if she was gettin grocerys, or going to get her hair done and had to crank it into a parking spot under a slow or no roll situation it is a little stiff to turn. Just my .02 and hopefully it helps you...................

The power rack that I recieved with my CCP Musteang II did not require a pressure regulator with the saginaw stlye PS pump. I only had to fab up the pressure side hose with Russel fittings and Hose.

My brothers '48 PU has a Jim Meyer IFS. Originally had a non-ps rack, he changed it to ps. I never drove it before the change, but he drives it daily in Atlanta traffic and said he needed it. He's a pretty big guy.

Mine has the power rack. Great for tight spots and hi-way driving. I guess with a smaller dia. than stock steering wheel the power is probably a better bet. Specially if your wife is going to be driving it.
My 2 cents worth.

As said above the power rack with the standard PS pump you shouldn't need a regulator. I used a High pressure pump for the hydraboost brakes I have and it puts out almost twice the pressure of the std saginaw. I needed the regulator so it wouldn't blow out the seals in the rack.

Re: Talk to me about power vs. manual racsk

the power rack would be my choice. some rack setups can seem "over responsive" where people tend to overcorrect. the solution was to lower the pressure going to the rack and that seemed to work. in a sense like custom tailoring the steering.

Re: Talk to me about power vs. manual racsk

Make sure the rack has at least 3 to 3 1/2 turns from lcok to lock, and get a pressure reducer (washers under the valve) from RB's, it will be just fine.
