I have seen a shop down here in central Tx that specializes in Jeep Wagoneer restorations. Are there any resto shop folks know of specializing in our old trucks and 'burbs? I am thinking of sending mine out for work. Suggestions?

He doesn't specialize in 60-66 but I can HIGHLY recommend Troy at Full Scale Hot Rods in Ventura, CA. He is not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. In my opinion the best thing is that he does not cut corners. If he does it, he does it right. His work is always drooled over at the car shows and magazines.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was hoping someone would chime in with a recommendation for a shop in Texas or at least a contiguous state.

Go to some local shows or cruise ins and ask around ,you will probably find some good ones that way. I stopped in at a local auto parts store several years ago and just out of the blue ask the counter guy if he knew a good shop and he pointed me to to shop here in Ga that now does all my work.

Thanks again, for the inputs. Been laying on my back to fix things on the 'burb. I do not think that the rear brakes were working at all, see a new thread with questions. Anyway, I need to press my 'burb into service to haul stuff for a new house I am building so I am trying to take care of immediate mechanical problems. Later, I think I may ship her off to get her prettied up. I've got rust where they get rust, but as I lay under the truck, things do not look bad at all. So, gotta do the rockers and I have some replacement doors that I want to modify for electric windows. Plenty of things to do but I love the way this old beast drives. Gotta post some pics.

pressing your burb into service. remember before you overload it that it is not a new truck anymore. did you buy it just because it was a cheap truck to use for your house.they do have some brittle old parts to them

I need something to haul plywood sheets, some 2x8"x10' floor joists and maybe a few cement blocks. My beast has a 350 and 700R4. I will probably just haul per day what I can install that day from the Home Depot 5 miles away. No sweat!

translation - maybe 20 sheets 3/4" plywood, 2 x 8s and cement blocks on top. don't want to have to make too many trips now, gas cost money. it is human nature. those old body mounts won't take it and if there is any rust in the floors( the exception is none practically). remember that you won't be able to close the back doors with plywood.

may I suggest purchasing a 5x8 or 5x10 utility trailer for these trips? it would be 6-800 well spent imo. it would keep your old girl from being unsafe. only a suggestion.

Thanks for your concerns. Ain't no way that I will abuse my 'burb, but I do think she is capable of earning her keep. I also have a '36 Ford stakebed that I use to haul materials but the darn stakebed is pretty tall and therefore less convenient for some things. Ron, really inflated the load that I would consider putting in the 'burb. At 65, I would not haul more than I could install in one day and I don't work that hard these days. So, it will be OK, trust me.
