Re: Is it a carburetor problem?
With the engine fully warmed up, I would check the carb adjustment screws and also the idle speed as the first things to look at and go from there if still a problem.
If still a problem I would check all vacuum hoses and maybe put a vacuum gauge on it to see the reading and behavior.

Re: Is it a carburetor problem?
I'd check the gas cap. He may be drawing a vacuum in the tank that the fuel pump can't over come. That's not all bad either....nobody wants to collapse a fuel tank!
The next time it happens, open the gas cap and listen for a rush of air.

Re: Is it a carburetor problem?
If that is a real 302 DZ Z/28 engine in there ,I think a carb problem would be the least of the problem, pull that engine out, save it for a guy with a 1969 Z/28 and stab in a crate engine.

I appreciate the feedback I'm waiting to hear back from him I guess he has a brother-in-law that's going to look at some of that stuff and if he has any of the questions I'm going to turn them on to this form
